Last weekend saw the premiere of the Tetris film on Apple TV+, and a lot of people have been enamored with the story of how the game was acquired from the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. The Tetris theme itself is pretty iconic, and we have a song from the soundtrack by K-group aespa which takes the theme and turns it into a pop song.

The original Tetris theme was actually a folk song called Korobeiniki. While we didn’t get the explanation of the theme in the film, it hinted at during the meeting between Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) and Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov), where Pajitnov reveals he had an affinity for more classical music and folk songs.

The movie is actually a good load of fun. Though we can never expect Tetris to get a movie treatment like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s pretty interesting how they were able to get a film out of the story that it was snuck out of Soviet Union during the Cold War.
