We know that Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a movie based on a game, and there’s one scene where Chris Pine’s party is forced to face beasts and challenges in an arena for sport. Just in, we have a new clip from the movie, and it gives us a good look at mimics and the displacer beast.
Check this out:
The clip does two things; first, it introduces us to Hugh Grant’s character who is the ‘Grandmaster’ of the arena (not unlike Jeff Goldblum in Thor: Ragnarok); second, it gives us a good set-up for the arena, which has changing levels, multiple beasts, and occasional perks (i.e., the chests with different weapons).
Though Sophie Lilllis’ druid seems to be the only non-human in the main party, it’s pretty neat to see other races in other parties, like the dwarf with the flail. With Michelle Rodriguez’s short height, I was kind of hoping they would reveal that her character was a female dwarf, but I guess that just leaves more room open for the introduction of other races down the line.
Going back to the clip, I absolutely love how they manage to capture the feel of an authentic Dungeons & Dragons campaign. I mean, it’s okay to take the lore seriously, but it’s the fun that really brings people into the game; and why it’s managed to stick around for so long in popular culture.
Catch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it releases in theaters on March 31.
