HBO has The Last of US, Amazon has God of War, and Paramount has Halo. With all these big video game adaptations, you can bet Netflix wants in on that pie.
News had recently come out that Netflix is set to make a Horizon series based on the games from Guerrilla, but we didn’t know that production was set to start so soon. According to The Ronin, Netflix’s Horizon series is aiming to start shooting in Toronto in August and is expecting to wrap around March next year.
Since we have yet to get news on a showrunner or even actors, an August start of productions seems pretty unlikely, but it’s possible that Netflix would want to time the announce right. After all, everyone is still on the lookout for Santa Monica’s God of War: Ragnarok announcement.
While I expect a Horizon series to focus on the story of Aloy, I think the world is large enough to focus on a completely new character that will have a journey parallel to Aloy. I mean, even the VR game is focused on a completely different character. With the story spanning so much time, I’m guessing they could give us a prequel or something that happens during the events of the games.
Who knows, maybe they can even give Aloy a guest appearance in the show, but I don’t know if face model Hannah Hoekstra will be able to pull off the same kind of performance that Ashly Burch puts into the character.
No release date has been set for Netflix’s Horizon series, but you can check out Horizon Forbidden West now available for PS4 and PS5.
