Blizzard is set to celebrate six years of Overwatch this year, and with the Anniversary coming up in May, the devs have decided to mix it up with this year’s event.
As announced, Overwatch will now start with an Anniversary Remix and Volume 1 kicks off this April 5. Here’s the post:
While the event doesn’t promise any brand new skins (yet), Blizzard has revealed that there will be ‘remixes’ of the most liked skins in the game including Mage Mercy, Zealot Zenyatta, White Cat D. Va, and Evermore Reaper.
With the anniversary being a three-parter, Blizzard has also announced that they will be cancelling the other usual events this year—specifically Archives, the standard Anniversary, and Summer Games. They write:
This does mean that events like Archives, standard Anniversary, and Summer Games will not make a return this year. Instead, the Anniversary Remix events will be introducing a new set of variants in place of the normal event schedule, all of which will transfer to Overwatch 2 along with all previously earned skins, sprays, and player icons.
That being said, there is still a chance to get the event specific skins as well as play the game modes that come with the cancelled events. Though I’m sure some fans are bummed that the events have been scrapped for the year, it is a nice change of pace when it comes to the game.
