Instead of battling in Pokemon Gyms and eventually becoming a Champion in a region, the player in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will join the Galaxy Expedition Team, also known as the Galaxy Team, as an important member of the Survey Corps to learn more about the Pokemon found in the Hisui region. One of the game’s primary objectives for the player is to finish the Pokedex by capturing and learning about each species of Pokemon in the region.
This guide will discuss everything you need to know about Munchlax in Pokemon Legends: Arceus!
Munchlax
Munchlax, the 51st Pokemon in the Hisuian Pokedex, is a Normal-type Big Eater Pokemon that has a teal and cream-colored body, a round head with a cream-colored lower half, a pair of round eyes with small, black pupils, a wide mouth with two pointy teeth stick out from its bottom jaw, a pair of large pointy ears, a pair of thick arms with five fingers on each hand, a cream-colored circle marking on its chest, shaggy fur at the bottom part of its body that make it look like the bottom part of a dress, and a pair of cream-colored feet with three claws on each foot and brown paw pads.
According to its Pokedex entry in the game, Munchlax has a robust stomach that allows it to devour even rotted matt without any problems. Additionally, it says that Munchlax likes to visit villages to look for food scraps meant to be used for compost.
Basic Information
Munchlax is a Normal-type Pokemon, which means it is weak (super effective) to Fighting-type moves and immunity (no effect) to Ghost-type moves.
Munchlax’s base stats are 135 HP, 85 Attack, 40 Defense, 40 Special Attack, 85 Special Defense, and 5 Speed for a total of 390.
Munchlax can be evolved to a Snorlax once it reaches a high Friendship Level.
To raise a Pokemon’s Friendship Level, the player must have the Pokemon in their party, use it in battle without letting it faint, and gather materials from trees, ores, and the like.
The Friendship Checker is a guy named Belamy, located south of the Pastures in the eastern part of Jubilife Village, which allows users to determine a Pokemon’s Friendship Level. It is crucial to remember that the Friendship Checker is not available at the start of the game and must first be unlocked by completing the “Measuring Your Compatibility” Request (request 28).
Belamy’s Friendship Levels
After completing this request, the player can speak with Belamy and select the Pokemon they want to check the Friendship Level. According to Belamy’s description, the actual friendship level is as follows:
Friendship Level | Belamy’s Description |
Base Friendship | “[Your Pokemon] seems leery of you yet. New to the team, perhaps?” |
Low | “I suppose [your Pokemon]’s become a bit friendly toward you, but you’ve a ways to go…” |
Mid | “[Your Pokemon] seems to get on well with you. But I’m sure it could get on better!” |
High | “You and [your Pokemon] seem to be fast friends. You must be quite good companions!” |
Highest | “What an excellent pair of friends you and [your Pokemon] make. You must mean a lot to each other!” |
The player’s Munchlax must reach the High or Highest Friendship Level to evolve into a Snorlax.
Munchlax’s preferred foods are Dazzling Honey, Hearty Grains, and Plump Beans, which can be great for distracting it before trying to catch it, trying to battle it unawares, or simply feeding it food.
A Spoiled Apricorn and a Sitrus Berry will be dropped whenever a Munchlax is defeated or caught in the wild, then given to the player.
Location
Munchlax can be found in the locations mentioned at all times of the day and in every weather condition. The player will be able to find a Munchlax in the following locations:

In the Obsidian Fieldlands: west of Deertrack Heights.
In the Alabaster Icelands: in the Snowfall Hot Spring.
Aside from that, Munchlax may also be found inside Massive Mass Outbreaks in the Obsidian Fieldlands.
Research Tasks
The following are the Research Tasks in Munchlax’s Pokedex entry in Pokemon Legends: Arceus:
Multiplier | Research Task | Objectives |
x2 | Number caught | 1/2/4/6/10 |
Number you have caught without being spotted | 1/2/3/4/5
Times you have seen it use Rest | 1/2/4/10/15
x2 | Times you have given it food. | 1/5/10/15/20 |
x2 | Number you have evolved | 1 |
A Pokemon’s Pokedex entry is complete when it reaches Research Level 10. Whenever one of the objectives of a Research Task is accomplished, the Research Level of a Pokedex entry is raised by one level. When an entry completes a Research Task objective with a multiplier of x2, it receives two Research Levels rather than one.
To quickly complete Munchlax’s Pokedex entry, the player can feed it 20 times by throwing food or berries near it. Doing these will tick the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth objectives of the “Times you have given it food” Research Task to reach Research Level 10 thanks to its x2 multiplier quickly.
