“Gotta catch ‘em all,” the famous line from the world-famous anime and one of the most iconic lines of the franchise, is exactly one of the player’s main objectives in the new Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The game is set in the Hisui region.
The player, whose origin is a mystery, will become part of the Galaxy Expedition Team (or simply Galaxy Team for short) as one of the very important members of the Survey Corps.
The members of the Survey Corps are tasked to learn everything about the Pokemon residing within the region, so the player must catch every species of Pokemon and perform Research Tasks to complete the first-ever Hisui Pokedex.
Also, to double down on the mission to catch ‘em all, the legendary Arceus will task the player to meet every Pokemon in the region. Because of all that, the player must know about every Pokemon in Hisui.
This guide will discuss everything you need to know about Overqwil in Pokemon Legends: Arceus!
Overqwil
Overqwil, the 85th Pokemon in the Hisuian Pokedex, is a Dark and Poison type Pin Cluster Pokemon with a large, spherical body of black and purple on the top and light yellow on the bottom. This Pokemon has spikes surrounding it with the same colors as its location on its body, a pair of small eyes with purple pupils, small spikes in the middle of its eyes, purple lips, and a large tail with a purple marking that resemble the letter Q.
Overqwil is nicknamed “sea fiend” in the game because of the spikes all over its body and its savage temperament, according to its Pokedex entry. Its Pokedex entry also states that Overqwil nourishes itself by slurping poison.
Basic Information
Overqwil is a Dark and Poison-type Pokemon that has a weakness to Ground-type moves (super effective), a resistance to Dark-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, and Poison-type moves (not very effective), and an immunity to Psychic-type moves (no effect).
Overqwil’s base stats are 85 HP, 115 Attack, 95 Defense, 65 Special Attack, 65 Special Defense, and 65 Speed, for a total of 510.
Overqwil can be evolved from a Hisuian Qwilfish after performing the move Barb Barrage in a strong style 20 times. Hisuian Qwilfish can learn Barb Barrage when it reaches Level 15. Also, you need to perform it in a strong style to count. Hisuian Qwilfish must master the move, which happens when it reaches Level 25.
Hearty Grains and Plump Beans are Overqwil’s foods of choice. You can use these foods as a distraction before you catch or battle Overqwil.
When you defeat or catch an Overqwil, the player receives two items: a Ball of Mud and a Pop Pod.
Location
Unfortunately, the player can not find an Overqwil in the wild. To catch one, the player must evolve a Hisuian Qwilfish. Again, you can do this by performing Barb Barrage in a strong style 20 times.
There is one scenario where the player can encounter an Overqwil. This is in “The Trial of Lake Valor” mission, the 15th mission in the game. During it, the player must clear the trial set by the Legendary Pokemon Azelf to obtain the Red Chain.

This mission is one of the three Lake Trials. You can unlock it after choosing either Adaman or Irida at the end of the “Disaster Looming” mission. In the middle of “The Trial of Lake Valor” mission, the player will encounter an Alpha Overqwil.
It is worth noting that the player cannot find this Alpha Overqwil again. So save the game beforehand if the player accidentally defeats it. The Alpha Overqwil in this mission is a Level 58 Pokemon.
Research Tasks
The following are the Research Tasks in Overqwil’s Pokedex entry in Pokemon Legends: Arceus:
Multiplier | Research Task | Objectives |
x2 | Number caught | 1/2/3/4/5 |
x2 | Times you have seen it use Barb Barrage | 1/3/8/20/40 |
Times you have seen it use Dark Pulse | 1/3/6/12/25 | |
x2 | Times you have seen it use a strong style move | 1/3/8/20/40 |
Times you have seen it use an agile style move | 1/3/8/20/40 |
Each time a Research Task’s objectives are fulfilled, the Pokedex entry’s Research Level rises by one level. When a Research Task objective with a multiplier of x2 is fulfilled, the Pokedex entry receives two Research Levels.
When a Pokemon’s Pokedex entry gets to Research Level 10, it is considered finished. Furthermore, the player earns Research Points for completing Pokedex entries and Research Task objectives. If a player earns enough Research Points, their Star Rank in the Galaxy Team will rise.
To quickly complete Overqwil’s Pokedex entry, the player can catch one by evolving a Hisuian Qwilfish by letting it use Barb Barrage in strong style 20 times. Then use it in battle and use Barb Barrage in strong style three times.
Completing all these will tick the first objective of the “Number caught” Research Task to raise two Research Levels. Next, tick the first and second objectives of the “Times you have seen it use Barb Barrage” Research Task.
Then tick the first and second objectives of the “Times you have seen it use a strong style move” Research Task to receive four Research Levels needed to get to Research Level 10.
