In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the only one who can choose what to do in the game is the player: disband the evil Team Star, complete the Pokedex by catching them all, discover the mysterious new Titan Pokemon, or defeat all of the Pokemon Gyms, become champion, and become the best like no one ever was. However, once the player has done all this, the player can still do a lot in the post-game. One of these is challenging all the Pokemon Gyms in a rematch!
In this guide, we will learn how to defeat Katy, the Gym Leader of Cortondo, in a rematch! Consider this your spoiler alert for the ending of the game’s game’s main story!
The Beginning of the Post Game
After the credits roll right after completing “The Way Home” quest, which is the final main quest in the game, the player will be back in their dorm room and called by Director Clavell in his office. Exit the dorm room, and select the “Director’s Office” on the prompt.
There Directo Clavell will talk to Penny, Nemona, Arven, and the player, then say that he is not angry but wants to discuss their achievement in shutting down the time machine that prevented the ancient/future Pokemon from destroying the ecosystem of the Paldea region.
Also, Director Clavell mentions he is willing to overlook that they entered a restricted area as it was necessary. Then, Director Clavell will give the player a Master Ball.
After a few bits of dialogue, Nemona suggests they hold a Pokemon battle contest at the academy to celebrate the player becoming a Champion. Then, Top Champion Geeta will enter the room and say that the Pokemon League would be happy to lend a hand in organizing this contest, then suggest that both the students and the staff should compete for the title of the strongest trainer at the academy as everyone has the potential to be the greatest.
Then, Top Champion Geeta will also mention that she cannot participate unless the player helps her with her work. Select “I’d be happy to help!” on the prompt, and Top Champion Geeta will ask the player to inspect the various Pokemon Gyms in the Paldea region on her behalf and check if they are still fulfilling their duties as beacons of strength and inspiration for all those aiming to achieve the Champion Rank.
She will explain further that the player can do this by bringing their full might as Champion and challenging each Pokemon Gym Leader to test their battle skills Champion Geeta will leave with Penny to do some work.
Then, after a few bits of dialogue, the player can challenge the Pokemon Gym Leaders again in a rematch!
Cortondo Gym: Rematch!
Gym Leader Katy can be found inside the Cortondo Gym building in the middle of Cortondo, the first city in the west of Mesagoza, just ahead of South Province (Area Two) (northeast of Alfornada City or northwest of Los Platos).

Upon entering the Cortondo Gym building, approach Gym Leader Katy near the receptionist. She will introduce herself before realizing she is talking to the new Champion. Select any of the responses on the prompt.
After a few bits of dialogue, she will ask if the player is here as an errand from Top Champion Geeta and say that she completely forgot that she was supposed to go around for inspections; still, thankfully, she happened to be here to give cakes to her staff.
Then, Gym Leader Katy will ask if it is time for her to get a taste of their new Champion’s strength, so select “Yes” on the prompt, and the player will be brought to the battle court just across the Gym Building to start a battle against Gym Leader Katy!
Katy, The Sugarbug: Rematch!
In the battle court, Gym Leader Katy will explain that, as the Cortondo Gym is the closest to the academy, Trainers just starting are likely to head here first, So Top Champion Geeta has asked her to go easy on the Trainers, which makes her feel sad for her Pokemon as that means they often lose their battles. However, she will continue to say that opportunities like this excite her as she can finally show her true skill. Then, a battle against Gym Leader Katy will commence!
Gym Leader Katy will use five Bug-type Pokemon: a Level 65 Lokix, a Level 65 Spidops, a Level 65 Heracross, a Level 65 Forretress, and a Level 66 Ursaring which has a Bug Tera-Type.
Katy’s Lokix
Lokix is a Dark and Bug-type Pokemon which means that it is weak (super effective) to the Bug-type, Fairy-type, Flying-type, and Rock-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Psychic-type moves.
Gym Leader Katy’s Lokix will use the following moves:
- Axe Kick is a physical Fighting-type move with 120 Power and 90 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also has a chance to confuse the opposing Pokemon. If the move misses, however, the Pokemon who used it will take damage equal to half of its max HP.
- Sucker Punch is a physical Dark-type move with 70 power and 100 accuracy. It can only hurt the opposing Pokemon if it is about to perform a damaging move.
- Bounce is a physical Flying-type move with 85 Power and 85 Accuracy that makes the Pokemon using the move semi-invulnerable for a turn, then attack the opposing Pokemon on the next turn. Aside from that, it also has a 30% chance of inflicting Paralyze on the opposing Pokemon.
- Lunge is a physical Bug-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also lowers the Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
Gym Leader Katy’s Lokix has the Ability called Swarm, which increases the damage of its Bug-type moves by 50% once the Pokemon with the Ability’s HP is below a third of its max.
Katy’s Spidops
Spidops is a Bug-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness to Fire-type, Flying-type, and Rock-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Fighting-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type moves (not very effective).
Gym Leader Katy’s Spidops will use the following moves:
- Skitter Smack is a physical Bug-type move with 70 Power and 90 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also lowers the Special Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
- Throat Chop is a physical Dark-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also stops the opposing Pokemon from using any Sound-based moves for two turns.
- Brick Break is a physical Fighting-type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also destroys the active protective barriers in the battle.
- Silk Trap is a Bug-type status move that prevents the attacking Pokemon from being hit by the opposing Pokemon’s attack. This move, however, has a chance of failing when used consecutively. Additionally, this move will lower the Opposing Pokemon’s Speed stat by one stage if the blocked attack has hit.
Katy’s Heracross
Heracross is a Bug and Fighting-type Pokemon, which means it has a weakness to Fairy-type, Fire-type, Psychic-type, and especially Flying-type moves (super effective) and resistance to the Bug-type, Dark-Type, Fighting-type, Grass-type, Ground-type moves (not very effective).
Gym Leader Katy’s Heracross will use the following moves:
- Megahorn is a physical Bug-type move with 120 Power and 85 Accuracy.
- Close Combat is a physical Fighting-type move with 120 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also lowers the opposing Pokemon’s Defense and Special Defense stats by one stage.
- Stone Edge is a physical Rock-type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also has a 1-stage increased Critical Hit ratio.
- Night Slash is a physical Dark-type move with 70 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from dealing damage, it also has a 1-stage increased Critical Hit ratio.
Katy’s Forretress
Forretress is a Bug and Steel-type Pokemon, which means that it has a 4x weakness to Fire-type moves (super effective), a resistance to the Bug-type, Dragon-type, Fairy type, Ice-type, Normal-type, Psychic type, Steel-type, and especially Grass-type moves (not very effective), and an immunity to Poison-type moves (no effect).
Gym Leader Katy’s Forretress will use the following moves:
- Bug Bite is a physical Bug-type move with 60 Power and 100 Accuracy that removes the opposing Pokemon’s Berry.
- Gyro Ball is a physical Steel-type move with 100 Accuracy. It deals more damage if the attacking Pokemon is slower than the target Pokemon. This move’s Power is capped at 150.
- Curse is a Ghost-type status move that, if used by Ghost Pokemon, will lose half of the maximum HP of the Pokemon using the move to cause the opposing Pokemon to lose 1/4th of its maximum HP at the end of each turn. If the Pokemon using the move is not a Ghost-type Pokemon, this move increases the Pokemon using the move’s Attack and Defense stats by one stage and lowers the Speed stat by one stage.
- Stone Edge is a physical Rock-type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy. It is also an attack that has increased the Critical Hit ratio by one stage.
Aside from its moves, Gym Leader Katy’s Forretress has the Ability called Sturdy, which allows the Pokemon with the ability not to be knocked out with one hit or by One hit KO moves and stay in battle with 1 HP remaining.
Katy’s Ursaring
Ursaring is a Normal-type Pokemon, but, as Gym Leader Katy will Terastallize her Ursaring, it will change into a Bug-type because of its Tera-Type so, which means it now has a weakness to Fire-type, Flying-type, and Rock-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Fighting-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type moves (not very effective).
Gym Leader Katy’s Ursaring will use the following moves:
- Fury Cutter is a physical Bug-type move with 40 Power and 95 Accuracy that increases if it hits consecutively.
- High Horsepower is a physical Ground-type move with 95 Power and 95 Accuracy.
- Play Rough is a physical Fairy-type move with 90 Power and 90 Accuracy. It also has a 10% chance of lowering the Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon.
- Crunch is a physical Dark-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. It also has a 20% chance of lowering the Defense stat of the opposing Pokemon.
Conclusion
As Gym Leader Katy’s Pokemon are Level 65 and 66, it is recommended that the player use Pokemon that are Level 67 and above with Flying-type and Fire-type moves to defeat Gym Leader Katy and her Pokemon easily as Flying-type moves will deal super effective damage to Gym Leader Katy’s Lokix, Spidops, Ursaring, and, especially, Heracross, and Fire-type moves will deal super effective damage to her Forretress.
Additionally, the player should watch out for Gym Leader Katy’s Forretress as it has the Sturdy Ability, which allows it to withstand one-hit KOs and survive with 1 HP if attacked with full HP.
As it is 4x weak to Fire-type moves, attacking it with this type of move will likely activate its Ability. Then, on its turn with 1 HP remaining, it will counter with its Stone Edge attack, which, again, is a Rock-type move that can effectively damage Fire-type Pokemon.
After winning the battle, Gym Leader Katy will realize that maybe being too soft on Trainers is not good for both parties, and she will decide to conduct battles in more of her style.
She will then continue that if people complain that the Cortondo Gym is suddenly more difficult, she will tell them that not all pastries are sweet.
After defeating Gym Leader Katy in the rematch, the player can continue challenging other Gym Leaders!
