In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player has a plethora of options to do: disbanding the seemingly-evil Team Star, discovering the mysterious new Titan Pokemon, catching every species of Pokemon to complete the Paldean Pokedex, or defeating every Pokemon Gym in the region to become a Paldea Champion and be the very best like no one ever was.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet: Segin Squad (Dark Crew) Rematch Guide

However, the player can still do many things, even after completing the game’s main story and watching the credits roll. One of these is challenging the former Team Star squads to a rematch!

In this guide, we will discuss everything the player needs to know to defeat the Segin Squad/Dark Crew of Team Star in a rematch!  Consider this your spoiler alert for a few post-game details!

Location

E92E6659 9C13 4299 88FF 641E08E30F1A

At this point in the game, the Team Star squad bases have been rebranded as Star Training Centers. Like before, the Segin Squad Base is located in the northeastern part of West Province (Area One) (way north of Cortondo, the first city west of Mesagoza) on the path just before the player can reach the Cascarrafa.

Star Barrage: Rematch!

After finishing the main story and watching the credits roll, the player can take on the Star Barrage against the Segin Squad of the newly-reformed Star Training Centers. In case you forgot, in a Star Barrage, the player must battle several Pokemon within the allotted time by sending out multiple Pokemon, mainly the first three Pokemon in the player’s party, using the R button and have them battle the Grunts’ Pokemon at the same time

The player will lose if all of the player’s Pokemon runs out of HP or the timer runs out. If the player’s Pokemon are low on health, the player can return to Clive near the entrance and talk to him so he can heal the player’s Pokemon, or the player can interact with any of the vending machines inside the base. Also, the player can retreat and give up before the timer runs out by pressing the Y button.

Upon entering the Segin Squad’s Star Training Center, Giacomo will explain through the speakers that the player must defeat 50 (instead of 30 like in the player’s first attempts) of the Segin Squads’ Pokemon within 10 minutes.

Continuing the Rematch

This Star Barrage is simple to complete if the player has three strong Pokemon or can deal super effective damage against Dark-type Pokemon and are at the recommended level.

Because this is the base of Team Star’s Dark crew, all the Grunts in the base will use a Dark-type Pokemon (some Pokemon will have dual types, but one of them will be Dark-type). With that in mind, it’s worth noting that Dark-type Pokemon are weak against Bug-type, Fairy-type, and Fighting-type Pokemon (super effective), so they are ready with Pokemon of these types to defeat the grunts easily. The newly-reformed Star Training Center’s Segin Squad Grunts will use a lot of Sneasel, Weavile, Sableye, Bisharp, Skuntank, Zoroark, Honchkrow, Cacturne, Krokorok, Krookodile, and Cyclizar.

To start the rematch against Team Star’s Segin Squad, head towards the base’s gate, interact with the bell with the glowing button, and confirm on the prompt that the player wants to train at the STC using the first Pokemon in the player’s party.

After completing the Star Barrage, the player will be rewarded with LP depending on how fast the player completed the Star Barrage. This means that the faster the player defeats 50 of the Segin Squad’s Grunts’ Pokemon, the more LP the player will receive.

Segin Squad Boss Giacomo: Rematch!

The player can also challenge the newly-reformed Star Training Center Squad Bosses to a rematch. However, the player can only challenge each of the Squad Bosses once every day in the game.

To challenge Giacomo, the Segin Squad’s Boss, enter the Segin Squad base, head to the large tent with a large Poke Ball sign, and there the player will find Giacomo with two Grunts. Talk to Giacomo, and he will ask if the player is here to battle. Select ‘Yes’ on the prompt, and a rematch against Giacomo will commence!

Giacomo will use five Dark-type Pokemon: a Level 65 Cacturne, a Level 65 Krookodile, a Level 65 Honchkrow, a Level 65 Mabosstiff, and a Level 66 Kingambit. Unlike when the player first battled against him, Giacomo will use more than two Pokemon and will not use the Segin Starmobile. Giacomo will not Terastallize any of his Pokemon.

Giacomo’s Cacturne

With that in mind, it is worth noting that Cacturne is a Dark and Grass-type Pokemon meaning it is weak (super effective) to Fairy type, Fire type, Fighting type, Flying type, Ice-type, Poison-type, and especially Bug-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Electric-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Psychic-type moves.

Giacomo’s Cacturne will use the following moves in the Segin Squad Rematch:

  • Sucker Punch is a physical Dark-type move with 70 Power and 100 Accuracy; it can only damage the opposing Pokemon if the opposing Pokemon is about to use a  move that will deal damage. The move will fail if the opposing Pokemon has made its move or if the opposing Pokemon is not preparing an attack.
  • Spiky Shield is a Grass-type status move that will protect the Pokemon using the move from attacks and damage the opposing Pokemon equal to 12% of its max HP if a physical attack hits the Pokemon who used it.
  • Thunder Punch is a physical Electric-type attack with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy that deals damage and has a 10% chance of paralyzing the opposing Pokemon.
  • Bullet Seed is a physical Grass-type move with 25 Power and 100 Accuracy that will attack the opposing Pokemon two to five times in a row (37.5% chance to hit two times, 37.5% chance to hit three times, 12.5% chance to hit four times, and 12.5% chance to hit five times).

Additionally, Giacomo’s Cacturne has the Ability called Sand Veil, which will raise the Pokemon with the Ability’s Evasion by one stage if a Sandstorm is active.

Giacomo’s Krookodile

Krookodile is a Dark and Ground-type Pokemon meaning it is weak (super effective) to the Bug-type, Fairy-type, Fighting-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, and Water-type moves and immune (no effect) to Electric-type and Psychic-type moves.

Giacomo’s Krookodile will use the following moves in the Segin Squad Rematch:

  • Earthquake is a physical Ground-type attack with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy that will damage all of the Pokemon sent out in the battle and even double the damage if a Pokemon is in the middle of the move Dig.
  • Crunch is a physical Dark-type attack with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to inflicting damage, also has a 20% chance of decreasing the Defense stat of the enemy Pokemon by one stage.
  • Dragon Claw is a physical Dragon-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy.
  • Fire Fang is a physical Fire-type move with 65 Power and 95 Accuracy that inflicts damage and has a 10% chance of inflicting Burn on the opposing Pokemon or causing the opposing Pokemon to flinch.

Aside from that, Giacomo’s Krookodile has the Ability called Intimidate, which will decrease the Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon whenever the Pokemon with the Ability enters the battle.

Giacomo’s Honchkrow

6B54168D 5570 4445 A6D8 1BAA957B0836

Honchkrow is a Dark and Flying-type Pokemon, meaning it is weak (super effective) to Fairy-type, Electric-type, Ice-type, and Rock-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Ghost-type, and Grass-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Ground-type and Psychic-type moves.

Giacomo’s Honchkrow will use the following moves in the Segin Squad Rematch:

  • Hurricane is a special Flying-type move with 110 Power and 70 Accuracy that deals damage and has a 30% chance of confusing the opposing Pokemon. This move will still damage the opposing Pokemon in the middle of the moves Fly, Bounce, or Sky Drop.
  • Dark Pulse is a special Dark-type attack with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, also has a 20% chance of making the opposing Pokemon flinch.
  • Psychic is a special Psychic-type move with 90 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from inflicting damage, also has a 10% chance of lowering the Special Defense stat of the target Pokemon by one stage.
  • Tailwind is a Flying-type status move that will raise the Speed stat of all trainers who used the move’s Pokemon by two stages and will be in effect for four turns.

Also, Giacomo’s Honchkrow has the Ability called Insomnia, which will prevent the Pokemon with the Ability from falling asleep.

Giacomo’s Mabosstiff

DF280266 FC09 4449 91AB 77288C9A2EA7

Mabosstiff is a Dark-type Pokemon meaning it is weak (super effective) to Bug-type, Fairy-type, and Fighting-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type and Ghost-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Psychic-type moves.

Giacomo’s Mabosstiff will use the following move in the Segin Squad Rematchs:

  • Crunch is a physical Dark-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to dealing damage, also has a 20% chance of decreasing the Defense stat of the target Pokemon by one stage.
  • Payback is a physical Dark-type move with 50 Power and 100 Accuracy; it will deal double the damage if the opposing Pokemon does a move before the Pokemon who used the move.
  • Play Roughis a physical Fairy-type attack with 90 Power and 90 Accuracy that inflicts damage and has a 10% chance to decrease the Attack stat of the enemy Pokemon by one stage.
  • Ice Fang is a physical Ice-type move with 65 Power and 95 Accuracy that, aside from causing damage, also has a 10% chance of inflicting Freeze on the opposing Pokemon or causing the opposing Pokemon to flinch.

Aside from its moves, Giacomo’s Mabosstiff also has the Ability called Intimidate, which will decrease the opposing Pokemon’s Attack stat by one stage once the Pokemon with the Ability enters the battlefield.

Giacomo’s Kingambit

7466FF26 4D04 4BB7 B5E3 5A51BA8EAFD7

Kingambit is a Dark and Steel type Pokemon, meaning it is weak (super effective) to Ground-type, Fire type, and especially Fighting-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Dragon-type, Flying-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, Normal-type, Rock-type, and Steel-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Poison-type and Psychic-type moves.

Giacomo’s Kingambit will use the following moves in the Segin Squad Rematch:

  • Iron Head is a physical Steel-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to delivering damage, has a 30% chance of making the opposing Pokemon flinch.
  • Swords Dance is a Normal-type status move that will raise the Pokemon using the move’s Attack stat by two stages.
  • Stone Edge is a physical Rock-type attack with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy, raising the Critical Hit ratio by one stage.
  • Kowtow Cleave is a physical Dark-type attack with 85 Power and is a move that will never miss.

Aside from that, Giacomo’s Kingambit has the Ability called Defiant, which will raise the Pokemon with the Ability’s Attack stat by two stages whenever the Pokemon with the Ability’s stats are decreased.

Tips

As Giacomo’s Pokemon are Level 65 and 66, it is recommended that the player use Pokemon that are Level 67 and higher with Fighting type and Fairy type moves.

Fighting-type moves will effectively damage Giacomo’s Cacturne, Krookodile, Mabosstiff, and especially Kingambit. Fairy-type moves will effectively damage Giacomo’s Honchkrow and, again, Cacturne, Krookodile, and Mabosstiff.

The player can also use Bug-type and Ice-type moves because Bug-type moves can deal super-effective damage to Giacomo’s Krookodile, Mabosstiff, and especially Cacturne, and Ice-type moves will also deal super-effective damage to Giacomo’s Cacturne, Krookodile, and Honchkrow.

After defeating Segin Squad’s Boss, Giacomo, the player will receive 11,880 Pokemon Dollars. Then, the player would have to wait for the next day in the game to battle Giacomo again, but the player can still battle the other former Team Star Squad Bosses!
