In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player has plenty to do, including breaking up Team Star, learning more about the unknown Titan Pokemon, defeating every single Pokemon Gym and its Leader in the Paldea region to compete in the Pokemon League, becoming the Champion, and be the best like no one ever was, or simply making the famous line come to fruition and catching ’em all! To catch all of the Pokemon in the Paldea region, the player must be knowledgeable about every one of the Pokemon in the region.
This guide will teach you everything you need about Pokemon Chi-Yu!
Chi-Yu
Chi-Yu is one of the four Treasures of Ruin, a group of Legendary Pokemon found in the Paldea region. The other Treasures of Ruin aside from Chi-Yu are Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, and Ting-Lu, dual types with one of them being Dark type.
The four Ruin Treasures can be found inside special shrines found across Paldea. A shrine can only be opened by pulling eight specific stakes from the ground throughout the area. In the game, the four shrines add up to 32 stakes.
Chi-Yu, the 396th Pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex, is a Dark and Fire type Ruinous Pokemon that has a body that resembles a fish covered in dark red and yellow flame and a pair of curved jade beads found on each of its eyes that are back orbs coated with white around its sides.
According to its Pokedex entry in Pokemon Scarlet, Chi-Yu controls flames that can get over 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit and casually swim through lava created by melting rock and sand.
According to its Pokedex entry in Pokemon Violet, curved beads that sparked multiple conflicts have accumulated envy and clothed themselves in the fire to become Chi-Yu.
Basic Information
As mentioned, Chi-Yu is a Dark and Ground-type Pokemon which means that it has the following:
Weak to: | 2x (Super effective) | Fighting-type, Ground-type, Rock type, and Water-type moves |
Resistant to: | 0.5x (Not very effective) | Dark type, Fire type, Ghost type, Grass type, Ice type, and Steel-type moves |
Immune to: | 0x (No effect) | Psychic-type moves |
Aside from that, Chi-Yu has the Ability called Beads of Ruin, which will lower the Special Defense stat of the Pokemon active in the battle by 25%. This Ability will not stack, and the Pokemon with the Ability will become immune to opposing Beads of Ruin.
These are Chi-Yu’s Base Stats:
HP | 55 |
Attack | 80 |
Defense | 80 |
Special Attack | 135 |
Special Defense | 120 |
Speed | 100 |
Total | 570 |
Chi-Yu is of unknown gender, has no known evolutions, and is a member of the undiscovered egg group.
Location
As previously stated, each of the four Treasures of Ruin can be found within a special shrine that can be opened after the player has removed eight specific stakes scattered throughout the game. The shrine where Chi-Yu can be found in the Firescourge Shrine, which can be opened by pulling the blue stakes out of the ground around the Paldea region.
Stake Locations
Before going to the blue stakes, remember that getting to the locations of the blue stakes will be easier if all of the player’s Koraidon or Miraidon abilities are unlocked.
To find the blue stakes, the player can go to the following:
- A blue stake can be found on top of a large rock formation in North Province (Area One), specifically northeast of the Glaseado Mountain Watchtower or the North Province (Area One) Pokemon Center.
- A blue stake can be found next to a tree on a lower-level ledge in the northeasternmost part of Tagree Thicket.
- A blue stake can be found near two trees on a small patch of greenery up a cliff in between Tagtree Thicket and the snowy part of Glaseado Mountain.
- A blue stake can be found near some ruins in North Province (Area Two) near the northeastern edge of the map (southeast of Fury Falls or way north of Levincia Lighthouse).
- A blue stake can be found next to a large tree on top of a cliff just northeast of Levincia (just northwest of the Levincia Lighthouse or east of the Levincia North Pokemon Center).
- A blue stake can be found on top of Fury Falls northwest of North Province (Area Two).
- A blue stake can be found next to a large tree on top of a ledge just northeast of the North Province (Area Two) Pokemon Center in the northeastern corner of the map.
- A blue stake can be found next to a rock on top of a ledge close to the beach on the northeasternmost part of Glaseado Mountain.
To pull out a stake, press the A button and select ‘Yes’ on the prompt. After that, the stake will crumble and vanish, and the player will hear a mysterious cry from the shrine.
Shrine Location
The Firescourge Shrine will be unlocked once all eight blue stakes have been removed. To reach the Firescourge Shrine, the player’s Koraidon or Miraidon must learn the climbing and swimming ability. The player’s Koraidon and Miraidon will unlock the climbing ability after defeating Dondozo, the False Dragon Titan, and unlock the swimming ability after defeating Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan.
The Firescourge Shrine can be found inside a cave on top of Fury Falls (south of the North Province Area Two Pokemon Center or southeast of the North Province Area One Pokemon Center).
When the player arrives at the Firescourge Shrine, approach the blue door and press the A button to interact with it. A faint sound will be heard from within the shrine. When asked if the player wants to touch the shrine to open it, select ‘Yes’ on the prompt.
The legendary Pokemon Chi-Yu will emerge from the shrine and engage the player in battle. This is now the player’s opportunity to capture Chi-Yu!
Catching Chi-Yu
It should be noted that the Chi-Yu is a Level 60 Dark and Fire-type Pokemon, and it will use moves with these types in battle, so use Pokemon that are resistant to these moves. Also, be cautious when using Pokemon with moves that can damage Chi-Yu, as you don’t want to defeat it accidentally.
Furthermore, save your progress before dealing with the Firescourge Shrine so that you can reload the game if Chi-Yu is accidentally defeated. If you forgot, respawn the beaten Legendary Pokemon by waiting 10 minutes in-game and restarting the game.
