Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may have teased an eventual clash with Shadow the Hedgehog, but it’s going to be a few years until we see that on the big screen. Good news is, we can see a clash between Sonic and Shadow thanks to streaming.
In a new teaser for Netflix’s upcoming show Sonic Prime, we have a look at a whole new roster of characters, including this show’s version of Doctor Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog. Watch this:
Here’s the series official synopsis:
“It’s the Sonic you know and love until an incredible twist thrusts Sonic into a new adventure featuring a reinvented cast and Sonic like you’ve never seen him before, where the fate of the multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe from the evil machinations of his longtime nemesis Dr. Eggman and his army of badnik robots, it’s a race to save his friends, friends that he took for granted.”
While the teaser doesn’t really give us a sense of the plot, we at least have a look at Sonic’s powers and how they’re going to be portrayed in the series. I’ll admit, it’s not Arcane, but I’m sure it will appeal to the core Sonic audience which is going to be the young kids.
Looking at the description though, I think the idea that Sonic will be dealing with a multiverse story could mean that several versions of himself could exist in this show—maybe even one voiced by Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic in the movies; then again, that’s just speculation on my part.
Catch Sonic Prime when it comes to Netflix this Winter season.
