Check these out:

We had only gotten a glimpse of Tails in the first movie, but now we actually get to see him fighting alongside Sonic when it comes to the sequel. If anything, the movie is hyping up the arrival of Knuckles the Echidna, who is the next thing that can go toe-to-toe with Sonic—besides Doctor Robotnik of course.

Though the human characters are essential audience avatars when it comes to the movies, it would be great if they could just take a backseat with this sequel. No offense to James Marsden, but his cop character is not really that new or interesting, and Sonic and his friends have enough personality for the kids to identify with.

If there’s a human in this film that deserves attention, it’s Jim Carrey’s Robotnik, and even he’s more cartoonish than the CG characters in this movie.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of a mystical emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

Catch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when it hits theaters on April 8.
