The sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t even come out yet, but it looks like Paramount is ready to build an entire franchise around this tiny blue speedster.
As officially announced on Twitter, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is officially in development:
What’s more a spinoff series focused on Knuckles will also be coming to Paramount+, and they’ve managed to book Idris Elba to reprise his role from Sonic 2.
We don’t exactly know where the Sonic sequel will go, but we can assume that with Tails and Knuckles, the franchise is planning to slowly introduce us to all the characters that we know and love from the games. I’m sure there are some fans out there who would love to see movie iterations of Amy Rose, Vector the Crocodile, Big the Cat, or Rouge the Bat; hopefully the franchise can last long enough to give us Sonic’s edgy rival Shadow the Hedgehog. How about a villain that isn’t Jim Carrey’s Robotnik for a change?
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of a mystical emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
