It’s been a wild ride since January, and The Last of Us is now gearing up for the release of its finale this Sunday. With original Joel Troy Baker appearing in the last episode, we now have a new look at Ashley Johnson, the original Ellie, in Episode 9, playing the part of Ellie’s mother Anna.
Check this out:
Anna doesn’t really appear in the games, save for a letter that she writes Ellie shortly before her death. We don’t know much about her, except that she’s friends with Marlene, who was the one who put Ellie in the FEDRA QZ in the first place.
With Anna’s story full of gaps, it’s the perfect time for the series to just fill them in. Based on what we’ve seen in the previews, it looks like Anna could get infected while she was pregnant, resulting in Ellie becoming immune.
Then again, since that feels like the obvious answer, I think the show is going to be keeping the mystery of Ellie’s immunity for a later time—just like what the games are doing.
While I initially thought that the series was going to end with David’s arc, it looks like they’ll be covering the entire first game after all. Now I’m curious as to what the second season could look like, seeing that there’s a relevant time jump in Part II. Will they take all the flashback sequences and just make them the second season? Will we have to wait for Bella Ramsey to get a bit older?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
Catch the finale of The Last of Us when it premieres on HBO Max this Sunday.
