After Sonic the Hedgehog’s big splash in the big screen, SEGA is ready to up the ante with his upcoming title, Sonic Frontiers.
The game promises a massive open world for Sonic to run around in, and we have a new overview of what to expect. Watch this:
Welcome to the Starfall Islands, a playground of speed with diverse platforming challenges, fearsome mechanized enemies, and ancient secrets to uncover. In search of his captured friends, Sonic must accelerate to new heights, unlock Cyber Space portals, unleash newly upgraded abilities, and explore this untamed land on his path to solving the mysteries of the Starfall Islands.
Though the game has confirmed that Sonic’s friends will also be in the game, the marketing has mostly just focused on Sonic and a mysterious anime character that we can assume is behind all the mechanized monsters.
Frontiers is considered to be Sonic’s first foray into the open-world genre, so a lot of fans are curious on how SEGA plans to design the game around a character like Sonic who is all about going fast and reaching places faster than they can be rendered by the game engine. Besides exploration and puzzles, there are new fight mechanics added to the game and an ability called Cyloop that’s essentially the lightcycle ability from TRON.
Either way, the game looks fantastic, and I’m ready to watch Sonic make sparks fighting these biblically accurate angels. For more info on the game, you can visit the official site here.
Sonic Frontiers launches for the PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Nov. 8.
