It’s been said that The Last of Us adaptation on HBO won’t be a direct translation of what we got in the game, and we could be seeing a shuffling of events and introduction of new characters. The newest trailer had shown us a small scene with some new characters, and we have new info on who they are.
According to @NaughtyNDC, the couple talking to Joel and Ellie are Marlon and Florence, played by Graham Greene and Elaine Miles. Here’s he post:
In the game, we don’t meet a Marlon and Florence, but it would be interesting to find out how exactly they survived with just the two of them. My money’s betting on something dark and tragic, because some fans are curious as to why they look so well-fed during an apocalypse.
If anything, the two could be used as another parallel for Joel and Ellie. In the game, we are constantly meeting pairs of survivors who are supposed to mirror the fate of Joel and Ellie should things go another way. Bill had his partner Frank before a disagreement had Bill living perpetually alone; and gamers know what happens between the characters of Henry and Sam. Even Tess is supposed to show us what a working relationship with Joel looked like before he was stuck with Ellie.
20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed, Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
The Last of Us premieres on HBO Max on Jan. 15, 2023. The Last of Us games are currently available for PlayStation 4|5.
