Probably one of the most anticipated HBO shows right now is Craig Mazin’s adaptation of The Last of Us, and though we already got a teaser, the series was announced to come out sometime in 2023. While some thought that it would come out around March, it looks like we’ll be getting the series much earlier.
According to the official HBO Max page, the show is expected to premiere on January 15, 2023. Here’s a screenshot:
With so much hype building around the show, the reveal of the release date is expected to be some kind of major announced (probably alongside a longer trailer), so take this with a grain of salt. It’s possible this was released due to a technical error, but a January premiere does seem to make sense.
While the Last of Us games are already pretty cinematic on their own, it’s said that Mazin and his team are going to try and add their own take to Naughty Dog’s hit game. While some events can be expected to change, I think it’s just important that they keep to the core of the story which is the growing relationship between Joel and Ellie.
Either way, original game director Neil Druckmann is attached to the project, so we can bet that it will be pretty faithful to the title.
The Last of Us series is expected to come to HBO Max sometime in 2023. You can check out The Last of Us games now available for PlayStation 4|5.
