The Mortal Kombat series revolutionized the fighting game genre and introduced players to various characters. Each of these characters is vying for supremacy in the treacherous tournament.

This guide will discuss the ranking system in the latest game, Mortal Kombat 1. We will talk about the system’s nuances that support the brutal battles. This will give the player a deeper understanding of how to ascend the ladder of success in Mortal Kombat 1.

Whether you’re a seasoned Kombatant or a newcomer to the Mortal Kombat universe, this guide will equip you with the knowledge to conquer the ranks and emerge victorious in the deadliest tournament.

So, How Does The Mortal Kombat 1 Ranking System Work?

In Mortal Kombat 1, there are two ranking systems where the player can climb the ranks. These are in the Kombat League and each character’s Mastery Rank.

Kombat League

Kombat League is a seasonal ranked mode in which players compete against each other for special in-game rewards across a period of multiple weeks. While going up through nine tiered ranks, the player is matched against opponents of similar or equal skill levels. The player will compete to win the best 2 out of 3 matches in these ranked matches.

The player will earn points for playing and more for winning. Ultimately, the amount of points the player will receive is based on the opponent’s rank. Each victory moves the player toward the next rank. However, it is important to note that Kombat Points begin to dwindle following 72 hours of lack of activity.

As mentioned, the player can rise to nine ranks in this mode. The following are the ranks the player can attain in Kombat League:

  1. Apprentice
  2. Kombatant
  3. Warrior
  4. Champion
  5. Master
  6. Grand Master
  7. Demi God
  8. God
  9. Elder God

As the player rises through these ranks, the player will also have to fight other players of increasing skills. Again, the higher the opponent’s rank is, the higher the rewards.

Rewards

While playing in this mode, the player can acquire different rewards like the following:

  • Seasonal Kredits

The player can utilize this in-game currency to acquire unique Seasonal Items in the Store menu. These items can be gear and color palette customization options corresponding to the Season’s theme. The prices of these items range from 250 to 6,000 Kredits.

  • Gear

In the game, the player can change pieces of a character’s physical items, like Sub-Zero’s mask or Baraka’s blades. The player may receive some gear while playing in the Kombat League to modify the game’s characters. In Mortal Kombat 1, the gear that the player can get is purely cosmetic. This mode is excellent for quickly acquiring new gear.

  • Skins

The player can obtain many potential skins for each character in the game to completely modify their appearance. These will give the characters different looks, changing their flair and adding a bit of mastery and beauty to their design. Many of these skins are part of the store’s rotation; others have a seasonal design.

  • Palettes

The player can also obtain additional Palettes to put on to the costumes of the game’s characters. These are different colors for the skins that the player has obtained. Color palettes allow the player to select from a set of colors; some are usually associated with the current season.

Mastery Rank

The ranking in the Kombat League is the player’s overall profile rank. The Mastery Rank, on the other hand, ranks each character in the game. Mortal Kombat 1 is a character progression focusing on ranking rather than armor leveling.

Each playable character in the game features a Mastery Rank progress system. The Mastery Rank, like the profile level, increases as the player uses certain characters. There are 35 Master Ranks accessible to the playable characters and 15 Master Ranks to Kameo characters.

Increasing a character’s Mastery Rank allows the player to earn XP for the character. This will enable the player to unlock new gear, outfits, and moves for the selected character.

In Mortal Kombat 1, leveling up a character necessitates the player to continually play as that character across the game’s many modes. Gaining experience points (XP) is directly related to ranking up. This vital reward is obtained through matches in Story Mode, local multiplayer, Invasion Mode, or online matches.

Kameos increase their rank more passively. In the game, Kameos automatically gets XP simply by supporting a character. However, it is important to point out that using the Kameos in matches can hasten their leveling rate.

How to Rank Up

As mentioned, the player can rank up a character in Mortal Kombat 1 simply by using them. Using the character in matches grants the character XP. The following are the required amount of XP for the playable characters to rank up for each of the possible Mastery Ranks:

Based on this data, the player must accumulate 315,000 XP for just one character to reach Rank 35.

Best Ways to Get XP

The most effective way to rank up in the game is through getting XP in the Invasions Mode and online matches. The following are the most effective ways to rank a character up in those modes:

  • Flawless Victories

Achieving a Flawless Victory in matches in the modes indicated above will reward the character with a massive amount of EXP. For each Flawless Victory that the player performs, the character used gets 705 XP. Use this perk to help the chosen character level up faster. If the player has already completed Invasion Mode, it is best to return to low-level Endurance battles and try to achieve Flawless Victories there.

  • Brutalities

Defeating an opponent with Brutality grants the character an extra 190 XP. The player’s fastest option to perform Brutality is the Klassic Brutality. This is because this Brutality requires minimal to no combo skills, and the player can do it quickly and easily.

  • Relic

Relics are an important part of playing in the Invasion Mode. These items provide the player’s chosen character with valuable bonuses. More specifically, using the ‘Not Junk’ Relic is recommended. This item will give the player’s character a 15% boost in XP when the player wins matches or even complete mini-games like Test Your Might. To maximize the XP, the character will get equipped with the Not Junk Relic before starting matches in Invasion Mode.

  • Stat Points

Before beginning matches in Invasion Mode, the player can manually configure the character’s stat points. The player can use this to add special fighting features and styles to the game’s characters. Maintaining the character’s stat points can also give the player an easy way to eliminate an opponent. The player can invest Stat Points into a character’s Attack stats to get one-hit kills. This will give the character more XP after the fight. This can help hasten the character’s rank-up growth.
