Monster Hunter Rise is an unbelievable open-world action RPG. This concept has been out for a while, and designing and developing such a game requires a lot of time and resources.

Best 5 Games Like Monster Hunter Rise

However, for Monster Hunter Rise, it seems they’ve done a phenomenal job creating this fictional world. Granted, there are some quirks that not many players like, and they might urge players to search for different games which follow the same concept.

I’m pretty impressed by Monster Hunter Rise’s beauty, but not many share my viewpoint. Nevertheless, the main point is that this took us on an adventure to find the best five games like Monster Hunter Rise!

How We Evaluated Best Games Like Monster Hunter Rise

  • RPG aspects like progression systems, beauty, world, story details, etc.
  • Graphics, mechanics, gameplay, and the regular stuff excel in a game’s popularity.
  • Unique details, but in the theme of Monster Hunter Rise.
  • Popularity, rating, and other perspectives.
  • Similar dynamic gameplay and pace.

Dauntless

Available on: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Android, PC

Initial Release Date: 2019

Developed by: Phoenix Labs & Iron Galaxy

In other people’s words, this game has been deemed a redesigned Monster Hunter. So, in a few ways, this game overlaps with the classic Monster Hunter. Since the new installment is similar to its predecessor, Dauntless remains a good choice in this list.

As you might expect, Dauntless is solely focused on player progression. The game loops around the same two mechanics. Those are fighting and slaying beasts and then crafting and repeating. Most of the time, you’ll be out in the world killing mobs to level up and get better gear.

Dauntless graphics can be described as adequate. They’re not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but they’re a bit quirky and not as well crafted as some other games in the industry.

Nonetheless, there seems to be a special beauty you can’t put your finger on in this game. Even if the graphics are not as beautifully made as other titles, this game still manages to be as stunning as it is challenging.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

the best 5 games like monster hunter rise 1

Available on: PlayStation 4 & Microsoft Windows

Initial Release Date: February 28th, 2017

Developed by: Guerrilla Games

Using the word beautiful has been exhausting since most games are pleasing. Horizon: Zero Dawn is no exception, and before you think that this is everything that this game has going for you, I’ll stop you.

When playing this game, even if it is as attractive as it is, that’s the second-best feature. In other words, the first thing you might notice in Zero Dawn is the flexible but stable combat system, which exceeds expectations.

With a handful of unique creatures and mechanical monsters in this game, it is safe to say that you won’t get to rest quite frequently. The game keeps you on the edge of battle every time you jump on it, which might last over forty-odd hours.

It is a game that will leave a mark for generations of games to come, and it won’t be easily forgotten. Sadly, because of how well the story is presented and experienced, you might be sad to let go of it. But unfortunately, you must, after a couple of weeks of play, since the game is relatively short.

The Outer Worlds

Available on: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC

Initial Release Date: October 25th, 2019

Developed by: Obsidian Entertainment & Virtuos

With such a progression system, we deemed mentioning this game in the best five games like Monster Hunter Rise important. Truthfully, there are many differences between The Outer Worlds and Monster Hunter Rise.

Still, when you jump on this game, you feel immersed in the experience, and there is so much to explore, just like in Monster Hunter. As I said, the progression system played a huge part in the decision to include it in this list, so you might imagine it is well thought out.

Each decision you make in this game will impact how the game will progress and, ultimately, how you as a player will also. Dialogue is witty and full of diversity and intrigue, and the characters seem t be designed in a way that would bring some flair to the game.

While it is set in a much different era than Monster Hunter, the game doesn’t go all out on the sci-fi part. On the contrary, there are some more realistic and “old” aspects to the game that, instead of pushing technology in your face, creates a good balance of past and future.

God of War

the best five games like monster hunter rise

Available on: PlayStation 4

Initial Release Date: April 20th, 2018 – Newest Installment

Developed by: Santa Monica Studio, Ready at Dawn, Daybreak Game Company, Javaground

There are no words that could describe how much effort that was put into God of War. In my opinion, as well as others, this game seems to keep to its core better than any games that have emerged from 2010 onwards.

Nevertheless, let’s not satisfy my love for God of War anymore. Realistically, this game became the best five games like Monster Hunter Rise list because of many things, but the most important one I should note is the combat system and gameplay.

Like Monster Hunter Rise, this video game has many mechanics and combat quirks that are dear only to it. It has a smooth and stable style of combat which reminds many of the one and only Dark Souls. That’s the highest praise an RPG could get since you know that Dark Souls is the pillar for combat gameplay.

All of this is well and good, but the fun ultimately ends. It is so unfortunate that God of War doesn’t have any multiplayer. Even though the most recent installment of it does, it has been the subject of a lot of disappointment because bringing an online aspect to this game is nearly impossible.

Tera

Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Initial Release Date: January 25th, 2011

Developed by: KRAFTON

If you tend to lean more towards MMO games like the first two mentioned in this list, then Tera is a far better choice than God of War and the Outer Worlds. It would also be unfair of me to mention that, in theory, it is much more like Monster Hunter Rise than the other two.

Tera seems like a game that would inevitably be unplayable on consoles. But given the huge room for control customization, it is well adapted to be played on consoles.

The main reason I say that is because this game has one of the most complex combat systems on this list. Progression-wise, it is also the richest and most complex. With hundreds of beasts to slay and so much diversity in between, it is safe to say that you’ll sit in front of your monitor for a while before you master this game!

Overall, a great choice, but it is the underdog in this list, so there is a chance that you might run into some quirks and flaws. Its unparalleled uniqueness makes up for all of this!
