Enchanting in Minecraft is an important aspect of the game. Once you’ve learned how to use the enchanting table, it’s time to enchant items in the game. This article will show you the best armor enchantments to equip in Minecraft.

The Best Armor Enchantments in Minecraft

Tools and weapons in Minecraft can be enchanted to enhance its efficiency and usage. This includes the armor that players wear to protect themselves. At the cost of experience points, players can create enchanted books and equip gears with enchantments. In this way, experience points will be considered as the currency to obtain stronger and better equipment. Although there are certain enchantments that only call for specific instances, we’ve listed down the best enchantments players may equip for their armor suit in Minecraft.

Best Enchantments for Helmet

  • Respiration: The Respiration Enchantment is a helmet-exclusive enchantment. Once equipped, this allows the wearer to breathe underwater for an extended amount of time. This is especially useful when used on the turtle shell helmet as your underwater breathing time will be extended for an additional 10 seconds on top of the original enchantment’s breathing time. The maximum enchantment level for Respiration is III.
  • Aqua Affinity: The Aqua Affinity Enchantment is another helmet-exclusive enchantment which basically increases your underwater mining speed. As mining—when completely submerged underwater—becomes slower, the mining penalty will be removed thus allowing you to mine normally underwater.

Best Enchantments for Chestplate and Leggings

  • Protection: The Protection enchantment gives the wearer damage reduction whenever he or she takes damage. It is best suited for armor when it is upgraded to its maximum enchantment level which is IV.
  • Blast Protection: The Blast Protection enchantment, derived from the name itself, protects the wearer from receiving a full-on explosion damage. An armor equipped with Blast Protection IV—its maximum enchantment level—absorbs 32% of any damage caused by an explosion.
  • Fire Protection: The Fire Protection enchantment reduces the damage taken by the wearer when it is caused by fire. Normally, armor does not absorb fire damage thus rendering a player weak even with a full set of armor when set on fire. Fire protection will absorb any incoming fire damage and will also reduce the burning time when on fire.
  • Projectile Protection: The Projetile enchantment is used best when it is upgraded to the maximum enchantment level. It will greatly reduce any incoming damage done by projectiles such as arrows, thrown tridents, shulker bullets, llama spits, and blaze fireballs.
  • Thorns: The Thorns enchantment, when equipped on a piece of armor, will reflect some of the damage received back to its attacker. This effect applies not only to melee attacks, but to ranged attacks received as well.

Protection, Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection enchantments are all mutually exclusive. This means that you can only equip a piece of armor with 1 protection-based enchantment. These do not stack with each other unless cheats will be used.

Best Enchantments for Boots

  • Feather Falling: This is a boots-exclusive enchantment that basically reduces fall damage. This works especially well when upgraded to the maximum level. Each upgrade level of Feather Falling reduces the fall damage by 12% for up to 48% when upgraded to Feather Falling IV.
  • Frost Walker: Frost Walker is another boots-exclusive enchantment where walking on water turns the water into ice. This immediately turns water blocks into frosted ice blocks which players can mine and collect using a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment.
  • Depth Strider: The Depth Strider enchantment increases underwater movement speed. The maximum level for Depth Strider is III. When a player equips boots with Depth Strider III, the swimming speed underwater will be as fast as walking on land.

Both the Depth Strider and Frost Walker enchantments are mutually exclusive to one pair of boots alone. And unless commands will be used, these enchantments will not stack.

Best Enchantments for Elytra

  • Unbreaking: Unbreaking offers chances to avoid durability reduction when the elytra is being used. This is most effective when the Unbreaking enchantment is upgraded to its maximum level which is III as the elytra is an extremely rare item and the goal is to prevent it from breaking.
  • Mending: The Mending enchantment “mends” the elytra’s durability. Using the elytra causes it to slowly lose durability. The Mending enchantment will automatically repair the elytra when the wearer earns experience points. Part of the EXP will convert into durability points which the elytra will absorb to restore durability and the remaining EXP will be absorbed by the player as usual.
