A lot of things have been going for Activision Blizzard recently from being acquired by Microsoft to having their higher-ups exposed for inappropriate behavior, but the studio has still managed to do its main function which is to make games.
A recent investor report has revealed that Blizzard is currently working on bringing the world of Warcraft to mobile. This is what the report officially wrote:
Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time.
Seeing that Warcraft has been the basis for current popular mobile games like Mobile Legends, it would make sense that the studio would want to bring the original title to the platform. While I think a simplified version of the original Warcraft game could sell, a bottom-to-the-top remake could also be a great entry point for people unfamiliar with the world of Azeroth.
As for other titles on Blizzard’s end, Diablo II: Resurrected managed to sell more units compared to its September release, and the public testing period of Diablo Immortal has ended and was met with positive feedback. The studio also promises that there will be ongoing development for Diablo and Overwatch, as well as some ‘new experiences’ for Warcraft as well.
No release date has been announced for Warcraft mobile, but based on the report, we could get the game sometime in the year. World of Warcraft is now available to play on PC.
