A few days ago, Netflix had officially announced that they would be pushing forward with a Gears of War movie, so it’s no surprise that Dave Bautista—who had been publicly campaigning about being cast in a Gears film—has made an online response.

Dave Bautista Responds to Gears of War Movie Announcement

This was Bautista’s post:

For years, Bautista has been campaigning to get the lead role of Marcus Fenix should a Gears film happen, and the farthest it’s probably gone officially is that Bautista has become a skin in Gears of War 5.

While nothing official has been announced by Netflix when it comes to the cast, Bautista does seem like a solid choice. Besides his own enthusiasm, Bautista has amassed quite the filmography, starring in films from directors like James Gunn, Denis Villeneuve, and Zack Snyder. He may be new to the leading man role, but with enough chances, I think he could manage to hold the spotlight easily.

Also, with Snyder currently working on Rebel Moon for Netflix, I think his sensibilities are kind of perfect for a franchise as violent and spectacular as Gears of War. It’s just a thought.

Here’s the synopsis for Gears of War:

The game is set on a planet on the brink of societal collapse when a monstrous threat in the form of underground creatures known as the Locust take humanity to the verge of extinction. Delta Squad, a ragtag fireteam led by disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix, is now charged with leading humanity’s last stand.

No release date has been announced for the Gears of War movie, but I’m guessing we could get something around 2024 or 2025.
