Looking to use the Cargobob in GTA 5? Here’s how.

How To Use the Cargobob in GTA 5

There are many helicopters in GTA 5, but only one type of helicopter can carry land and sea vehicles and transport them across the map – the Cargobob.

We will walk you through how to get the Cargobob and how you can use it in this quick guide.

How Do You Get the Cargobob?

The Cargobob is a fairly accessible GTA 5 and GTA Online aircraft. You can get the aircraft for free by stealing it from specific locations in the game or by purchasing it from a dealer.

GTA 5 Offline

The Cargobob is a military aircraft, so finding many of them in Fort Zancudo makes perfect sense. If you can survive long enough to find a Cargobob in Fort Zanduco, you can steal and fly one away for free. However, if you’d rather avoid confrontation with the military, you can purchase the Cargobob from Warstock Cache & Carry for $2,200,000.

Two other ways to get the Cargobob in GTA 5 Offline are through the missions Cargobob and Monkey Business.

To get the Cargobob in the Cargobob Mission, wait until you get your hands on the Cargobob in the mission and then fly and land the aircraft on the helipad at Sandy Shores Airfield. Once at Sandy Shores Airfield, exit the aircraft and run away from it to force a mission failure. Do not retry the mission so you can resume free roam. Return to Sandy Shores Airfield, and the Cargobob should still be on the helipad.

You can do the same in the Monkey Business mission. While using Trevor, fly the Cargobob to Sandy Shores Airfield and land the aircraft on the helipad. Exit the helipad, then kill yourself to fail the mission.

GTA Online

  • Helipads
  • Los Santos Naval Port
  • Fort Zancudo
  • Warstock Cache & Carry

The Cargobob will spawn randomly in various helipads in GTA Online after you have reached Rank 22. You can just go to these helipads and steal the Cargobob for free. Los Santos Naval Port should also have a Cargobob parked in the area.

Like GTA 5 Offline, you can get a free Cargobob from Fort Zancudo or purchase one from Warstock Cache & Carry for $1,750,000 or $1,995,000.

How to Use the Cargobob in GTA 5

The Cargobob is the only tandem-rotor helicopter in the Grand Theft Auto series. Its powerful motors allow it to lift various land and water vehicles in the game, as seen in the Cargobob setup mission for the Merryweather Heist. Here’s how to use the Cargobob in GTA 5.

  1. Pilot the Cargobob like you would with any other helicopter in GTA 5.

2. Deploy the hook by pressing the Right D-Pad on your controller or the E button on your keyboard.

3. Fly the Cargobob above the vehicle you want to pick up. The hook should automatically clip onto the vehicle.

Can the Cargobob Pickup Planes?

No, the Cargobob cannot pick up planes and can only pick up land vehicles and watercraft in GTA 5. You can also pick up props and other objects using the Cargobob’s hook.

Weight and size don’t seem to be the issue since the Cargobob is known to be able to lift tanks such as the Rhino and TM-02 Khanjali, which weigh around 60 tons and 30 tons, respectively. Nevertheless, while it might be a fun idea to up planes and move them around using the Cargobob, the game simply doesn’t allow it.

Final Thoughts

The Cargobob is very similar to other helicopters in GTA 5. The only real difference is the Cargobob’s ability to transport various land and water vehicles via its hook. Refer to the guide above to learn how to deploy the Cargobob’s hook so you can finally use the Cargobob to transport vehicles in-game.
