In Supergiant Games’ Hades, Zagreus can access Companions to help him in his Underworld escape attempts. Companions, or Legendary Keepsakes, are items Zagreus can use to access a summoning ability, which is different for every Companion, for his Underworld escape attempts.
Although somewhat harder to obtain, Companions can also be equipped from the display case (besides the Infernal Arms in the Courtyard) just like the regular Keepsakes. However, unlike the regular Keepsakes, Zagreus cannot switch Companions from the display case after defeating each boss in each area. On the display case after each boss, Zagreus can upgrade Companions with Ambrosia.
It is possible to use Companions once per combat chamber and several times per escape attempt, depending upon the upgrade level. At the lowest level, a Companion can only be used once, but it can be used up to five times at the highest level. Despite the Companion’s level, a Night Spindle can be purchased at the Well of Charon to exceed the maximum number of uses.
There are a total of six Companions for Zagreus to collect. In this guide, you learn how to unlock Companion Fidi and how to use it.
Companion Fidi
To obtain Companion Fidi, Zagreus must first strengthen his affinity with Dusa. To do this, Zagreus must give her five to six Nectar. Dusa’s Affinity Gauge can be seen in the Codex as the set of hearts right under her name.
After giving her enough Nectar, a heart with a keyhole will appear in her Affinity Gauge. This means to continue strengthening Zagreus’ relationship with Dusa, you must first do her a favor. This can be found in the Fated List of Minor Prophecies as the A Place of Revelry prophecy. Dusa will ask Zagreus to help her in renovating the Lounge, a task she has fallen behind with. To complete Dusa’s favor, Zagreus must purchase 12 renovations for the Lounge from the House Contractor. Zagreus cannot, however, just buy any renovation available to complete Dusa’s Favor. Zagreus must purchase at least one rug for the Lounge and purchase the cleanup for Cerberus’ scratches and fur.
After completing her favor, talk to Dusa the next time you see her in the House of Hades to complete the prophecy, and you can now give her Ambrosia to strengthen and max out Zagreus’ affinity with her. Then, after giving Dusa Ambrosia for the first time, she will give Zagreus the Companion Fidi!
Using Companion Fidi in battle will summon Dusa, who will fire 70-damage petrifying shots for 30 seconds.
It is important to mention there are instances when Companion Fidi cannot be used: Companion Fidi cannot be used on non-combat chambers like Sisyphus’, Eurydice’s, or Patroclus’ chamber, and cannot be used against Hades. Hades, however, will eventually allow you to use Companion Fidi against him.
As mentioned above and like the other Companions, Companion Fidi can only be used once per combat chamber and can only be used once per escape attempt, depending on the upgrade level. To increase the number of uses for Companion Fidi, upgrade by using Ambrosia. Additionally, Zagreus gains +1 use of Companion Fidi by purchasing the Night Spindle from the Well of Charon.
Final Thoughts
Like trying to obtain Companions, one of the challenges in obtaining Companion Fidi is collecting the Nectar to give to Dusa and strengthening Zagreus’ relationship with her to trigger the dialogue where she asks for Zagreus’ help. Another challenge is collecting the Gems to purchase renovations for the Lounge and complete Dusa’s favor and prophecy. Although Gems are not as hard to collect as Nectar and Ambrosia, you still need to collect many Gems to complete the favor and prophecy. Another challenge, as previously mentioned, is obtaining Ambrosia which is arguably more challenging to get than Nectar. Finding Dusa in the House of Hades is a challenge as she does not appear after every run.
The primary strategy for this is to keep on going on Underworld escape runs and prioritizing Nectar. Then, check if Dusa is in the House of Hades after every run and give her Nectar until she has been given five to six Nectar. Wait for Dusa to ask for Zagreus for help to unlock the prophecy, then go on Underworld escape runs again but this time prioritize Gems and at least one Ambrosia. After every escape attempt, try and purchase as many Lounge renovations as possible from the House Contractor. After meeting the conditions for Lounge renovations, check if Dusa can be found in the House of Hades after every run and, if she is there, talk to her to complete the favor and prophecy. After that, you can finally give her the Ambrosia you collected earlier, and she will provide you Companion Fidi!
