We may have gotten a look at the remake for The Last of Us Part I, but HBO is set to adapt the game into a series with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Just in, it has been confirmed the series has already wrapped filming.
Showrunner Craig Mazin posted this:
Several other posts have come out online to confirm the wrap, but there is no big reveal for the series, except a look at the Fireflies logo. There is also a shot of Pascal and Ramsey in character as Joel and Ellie, and they are hiding in the dark from a clicker:
While we expect the series to be faithful to the core elements of the game, it is possible that there could be some changes when it comes to specific beats in the story. Maybe some characters will survive, maybe not, or perhaps we could get a more in-depth look at the collapse of society after the outbreak.
Though the story of The Last of Us is critically acclaimed, I think a lot of its success has to do with the fact that it is a game—as in a different level of immersion. We do not know how the HBO series will manage to capture that same kind of emotion being a series, but I have faith that Mazin and game director Neil Druckmann have found a good compromise when it comes to the series.
No release date has been set for HBO’s The Last of Us, but you can check out the games now available for PlayStation.
