Hollywood has always been hit and miss when it comes to video game adaptations, but HBO’s The Last of Us was definitely one huge hit.

Interest In Ghost of Tsushima Movie has Risen Following HBO's The Last of Us

As it turns out, the show was so well-received that it managed to bump up interest in another adaptation of a PlayStation exclusive—Ghost of Tsushima.

Talking to BroBible, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski has explained that the success of TLOU has gotten a lot of people excited for an adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. He says:

Rainbow Six, Ghost of Tsushima  — I’m working on. Both are fantastic projects that I really hope come to fruition. But Ghost… it’s got an amazing story. It’s the anti-samurai samurai movie. It’s got great thematics. We have a lot of push on that and a lot of interest because Last of Us pushing that, yes, the curse of video game-to-movie is kind of lifted. It can be done. You’ve just got to give it love and attention. And Ghost, of probably all the other video game [movies] in development, I think that’s the one that’s going to land.”

If anything, Ghost of Tsushima has been very clear with its cinematic influences (particularly Akira Kurosawa), so a jump to movies could be the franchise stepping backward.

Personally, I thought that the story of Tsushima was pretty bland, but the world is definitely breathtaking. If you take Jin’s story and add some visual flair and solid action, I think we can have a modern samurai film for the ages.

Here’s the official description for Ghost of Tsushima:

Uncover the hidden wonders of Tsushima in this open-world action adventure from Sucker Punch Productions and PlayStation Studios, available for PS5 and PS4.

Forge a new path and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima. Challenge opponents with your katana, master the bow to eliminate distant threats, develop stealth tactics to ambush enemies and explore a new story on Iki Island.

A Ghost of Tsushima movie hasn’t been officially announced, but you can check out the game now available for PlayStation. John Wick 4 comes to cinemas March 24.
