Yun Jin is the director and soul of the Yun –Han Opera Troupe—one of the most acclaimed groups in Liyue. Ms. Yun, as addressed by the people of Liyue Harbor, is a renowned opera singer who is skilled in playwriting and singing. Her talents reflect her personality—exquisite and delicate.
Aside from eagerly learning the art of Liyue Opera from an early age and eventually taking over as the director of her family’s opera troupe, Yun Jin also enjoys rock ‘n’ roll music and even became friends with the rock ‘n’ roll musician Xinyan.
While performing an opera titled “Snow Treading,” Yun Jin found herself adrift like the character in the story who felt lost and lamented her helplessness. After the performance, she found a Geo Vision on her sleeve when she took off her costume. It made her experience the feeling of leaving herself behind and walking in the shoes of the character she played.
How to Get Yun Jin
Yun Jin is a 4-star character added as a permanent 4-star item in all wish banners. With Primogems, Acquaint Fates, and Intertwined Fates, you can make wishes on the Standard and Character Event Wish Banners to get Yun Jin. However, the best time to make wishes on the banner is when Yun Jin is one of the featured characters because by then, the rate of chance to get her will be increased.
Please see our guide here to learn more about acquiring characters in Genshin Impact.
You can choose to have one of the characters free from the Prosperous Partnerships during the Lantern Rite season celebration in Liyue. This season is Genshin Impact’s celebration of the Chinese New Year, and events with generous rewards are available.
Team Role and Party Composition
Support, DPS, or Hybrid?
Yun Jin was introduced to the game as a support character who will boost the damage of all characters in the party. However, since her damage-buffing talent boosts her damage, she can deal decent damage to opponents.
Given the nature of Yun Jin kit, it would be better to go with either being a DPS character or a hybrid of both DPS and Support. Going full support type will most likely waste her potential to deal damage to opponents and will have her depend on party mates to fight enemies.
With one of Yun Jin’s passive talents, she will be a better damage buffer in a party of characters with different elemental types.
Talents and Play Style
Combat Talents
Normal Attack: Cloud Grazing Strike
Yun Jin’s normal attack is a combo of up to 5 strikes with her spear as if she is doing a dance performance. When making a charged attack, she will spin towards the opponent to deal greater damage to them and break their stance.
Opening Flourish
This is Yun Jin’s elemental skill talent that can be executed by pressing the talent button or holding it and can be charged up to level 2 to unleash a Geo attack with damage based on the charged-up level.
When this skill is pressed, Yun Jin will flourish her spear in a cloud-grasping stance and deal Geo damage to the surrounding opponents it hits.
If the execution holds the button, Yun Jin will take the Opening Flourish stance and charge up to form a shield for around 3 seconds. The damage absorption of the shield in this stance will be based on Yun Jin’s maximum HP.
Yun Jin will unleash the charged energy as a Geo attack after the stance duration ends or if the shield breaks because the maximum damage absorbed was reached.
Cliffbreaker’s Banner
When using this elemental burst talent, Yun Jin will unleash a Geo energy to deal AOE damage to the opponents around her. A Flying Cloud Flag Formation will be granted to the entire party, including Yun Jin.
The Flying Cloud Flag Formation will grant the characters additional damage to the normal attacks that they hit. This effect grant’s damage boost is based on Yun Jin’s current defense, which means that Yun Jin can accept a defense buff from other characters before casting this elemental burst to have a higher damage boost from the Flying Cloud Flag Formation.
Also, note that the Flying Cloud Flag Formation will only last for 12 seconds or if it reaches the quota of 30 normal attack hits of the character.
If you have this buff, you need to do 30 normal attack hits to maximize the use. The best characters to have this bonus are those whose playstyle focuses on regular attacks with high attack speeds, like Keqing, Fischl, Childe, and Raiden Shogun.
Passive Talents
True to Oneself
This passive talent enhances Yun Jin’s elemental skill, Opening Flourish. With this unlocked, when Yun Jin casts the elemental skill at the precise moment that she is attacked, the damage unleashed by Opening Flourish will be of its level 2 charged stance.
True to Oneself is a talent that lets you change Yun Jin’s playstyle to make perfect counterattacks.
Breaking Conventions
Yun Jin’s fourth ascension passive talent that can be unlocked at level 60 is the talent that boosts her support capabilities.
With this passive unlocked, the normal attack damage bonus provided by the Flying Cloud Flag Formation is further increased by a certain percentage of Yun Jin’s defense depending on the number of elemental types present in the party.
If it is a mono team or a team of a single element, 2.5% of Yun Jin’s defense is the bonus. With two elemental types, the party will gain a 5% boost, 7.5% with three elements present, and 11.5% of Yun Jin’s defense will be the added normal attack damage if the party is composed of 4 elemental types.
This passive talent suggests Yun Jin be in a party of characters with different elemental types. There should not be another Geo character in her team for the effect of this talent to be maximized.
Light Nourishment
Light Nourishment is Yunu Jin’s passive utility readily available at character level 1. With this passive, you can choose Yun Jin when cooking food with exploration or Adventure-related effects to obtain double the product.
Constellations
Constellation level 1: Thespian Gallop
This first constellation level will reduce the cooldown time of Yun Jin’s elemental skill, Opening Flourish, by 18%. This allows the elemental skill to be used more often and helps regenerate energy faster for the elemental burst.
Constellation level 2: Myriad Mise-En-Scene
With this constellation unlocked, after Yun Jin uses her elemental burst Cliffbreaker’s Banner, all nearby party members will receive a 15% increase to the damage of their normal attacks.
This effect, combined with the damage bonus granted by the Flying Cloud Flag Formation and the Breaking Conventions passive, will greatly increase the overall damage output of each character in the party.
Constellation level 3: Seafaring General
Unlocking this constellation level will increase the level of Yun Jin’s elemental skill talent and then upgrade it to have a maximum level of 15 from 10.
Constellation level 4: Flower and a Fighter
Flower and a Fighter is a constellation level that increases Yun Jin’s defense by 20% for 12 seconds whenever she triggers a Crystallize Elemental Reaction.
This changes Yun Jin’s play style for both a DPS and support type because you would want Yun Jin to use her elemental skill to an opponent affected by Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo to trigger a Crystallize Reaction.
You will know it is successful when an Elemental Shard gets dropped. This happens first before using Yun Jin’s elemental burst to have a higher damage buff granted by the Flying Cloud Flag Formation. This will then increase Yun Jin’s defense by 20%.
Constellation level 5: Famed Throughout the Land
Yun Jin’s constellation level 5 increases the level of her elemental burst by three and raises its maximum level from 10 to 15.
Constellation level 6: Decorous Harmony
When unlocked, decorous Harmony—Yun Jin’s last constellation level will further enhance the buff that her elemental burst talent gives. With this constellation, characters under the effects of the Flying Cloud Flag Formation will have their average attack speed increased by 12%.
This increase in average attack speed allows the characters to reach the maximum 30 hits quota of the Flying Cloud Flag Formation within the 12-second buff duration.
How to Build Yun Jin
Build Yun Jin’s character stats depending on her role in your party.
For a support type, you need to give her many defense points so that the normal attack damage that the Flying Cloud Flag Formation grants will also be high.
As a DPS character, you can focus on boosting Yun Jin’s overall damage output by giving her a decent amount of 2,000 ATK, 70% Critical Rate, and a lot of Critical Damage points. Yun Jin’s damage-dealing play style is heavy on the regular attacks. Therefore the Geo damage bonus is not a priority.
Giving her a Physical Damage Bonus from weapons and artifacts will also work for a pure DPS build.
You can choose to have a balance of Defense, ATK, and Critical Stats for the hybrid type.
Building Yun Jin’s as a shielder is not ideal because the damage absorption of the shield created by her elemental skill talent scales off of her HP. If you build a lot of HP for her, you will lose many of her damage and support capabilities.
Yun Jin’s hidden or ascension stat is Energy Recharge, and with her elemental burst talent needing only 60 energies to use, you can choose not to get this stat on her artifacts and weapon.
Weapon: Polearm
5-star Polearms
Primordial Jade Winged-Spear
The Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (PJWS) is the most flexible polearm for characters that lean towards being a damage dealer.
Yun Jin’s playstyle is high-speed normal attack combos. She will easily trigger the maximum stack of the PJWS’s passive effect.
Vortex Vanquisher
Even though Yun Jin can create a shield while in the Opening Flourish stance, this will not trigger the passive effect of the Vortex Vanquisher, you can, however, have another shielder cast a shield for Yun Jin or pick up an Elemental Shard from Crystallized Elemental Reaction to maximize this weapon’s bonuses.
Regardless of the passive effect, this spear is five stars in rarity with a secondary stat of ATK%, giving Yun Jin more ATK points than 4-star polearms.
4-Star Polearms
Lithic Spear
This 4-star spear is designed to have Liyue characters in the party. It increases the ATK of the weapon user with its secondary stat of ATK%.
The passive effect grants an additional ATK and Critical Rate increase for every character in the party that hails from Liyue. Since Yun Jin herself is from Liyue, a single stack of the passive effect will automatically be in effect if she uses this polearm.
Wavebreaker’s Fin
This is another 4-star spear that increases the user’s maximum ATK. However, the passive effect is only good if Yun Jin’s team characters have elemental burst talents with high energy costs.
Deathmatch
This Battle Pass polearm is known for the high Critical Rate bonus it gives as a secondary stat. It can provide a 36.8% Critical Rate at weapon level 90, much higher than the 22.1% that the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear gives.
Crescent Pike and Dragonspine Spear
These two polearms increase the user’s physical damage, meaning the normal attacks of a melee character. They are good options for Yun Jin, especially a DPS type that focuses on making a lot of normal attacks.
These spears are also good for free-to-play players because you can craft them via the city smithy.
Artifacts
Husk of Opulent Dreams
This artifact set increases the Defense of the user if two pieces are equipped. A stack of Curiosity will be gained with four pieces when the character hits an opponent with a Geo attack. Each stack of Curiosity provides 6% Defense, Geo damage, and a maximum of 6 stacks can be gained.
A stack of Curiosity can also be gained for every 3 seconds the artifact user is not on the field.
This artifact can greatly boost Yun Jin’s defense which is good for a support type.
Gladiator’s Finale
For the play style of both support and DPS Yun Jin, using the 4-piece set of Gladiator’s Finale is a good choice.
Aside from the 18% ATK that the 2-piece set gives, the normal attack damage of a polearm, sword, or claymore user will be increased by 35%. Yun Jin can benefit from this damage boost.
Shimenawa’s Reminiscence
Like the Gladiator’s Finale, the Shimenawa’s Reminiscence gives an 18% ATK bonus if the character wears two pieces of this set. If four pieces are equipped, after Yun Jin uses an elemental skill and has 15 or more energy, she will lose 15 energy points, and her normal, charged and plunged attacks will gain a damage boost of 50%.
When a 4-piece set of this artifact is used, you need to cast Yun Jin’s elemental skill whenever it is available for use.
Noblesse Oblige
Another 4-set option for a support type Yun Jin is the Noblesse Oblige.
Although the 2-piece set is not of much use for her, the 4-piece set effect will give the entire party an additional ATK of 20% on top of the bonus her elemental burst gives.
You can also combine 2-piece sets of the artifacts mentioned above to get your ideal build stat.
Artifact Parts’ Main Stat
For a support type Yun Jin, you can choose to have Defense as the primary stat for the Circlet of Logos, Goblet of Eonothem, and Sands of Eon.
For the DPS and Hybrid types, ensure you get a balance of ATK, Critical Stats, and Defense.
Ascension Materials
To level up and build Yun Jin to be the type of character you want, you need to ascend her to 6 ascension phases. And each ascension will need ascension materials that will increase in number and rarity in every phase.
Riftborn Regalia
After defeating the Golden Wolflord in Tsurumi Island, Inazuma, this item is the broken horn you can obtain.
Glaze Lily
An extremely ancient flower that was said to transform the memories of the land into its fragrance during fluorescence. This is a Liyue local specialty, which can only be found in the geo nation.
Damaged, Stained, and Ominous Masks
These are masks worn by different types of Hilichurls and will be dropped when you defeat them. The Stained and the Ominous ones can be crafted via the crafting bench in the city.
Prithiva Topaz Silvers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones
Silvers, fragments, chunks, and gemstones of this version of Prithiva Topaz are also needed when ascending Yun Jin. You can get these by defeating bosses, doing commissions from city jewelry shops, and crafting them.
Talent Level-Up Materials
Building a character includes increasing the level of their combat talents, and each level will require certain items as materials for the leveling up process.
For Yun Jin, aside from Mora and Hilichurl masks, leveling up her combat talents will also need Ashen Hearts. It is a deformed fragment containing powerful emotions obtained after defeating Signora in the Tenshukaku: Duel to the Fiery Death trounce domain.
The talent books you will need for Yun Jin to master her combat capabilities are the ones of the “Diligence” series you can get when completing the challenge in the Taishan Mansion Domain: Heart of the Flames.
These books include the Teachings of Diligence, Guide to Diligence, and the Philosophies of Diligence. The last two can be crafted using the crafting bench in the town.
