Like every Pokémon game, fishing is back in Pokémon Sword and Shield! In this guide, you will learn how to fish in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
To fish, you must first obtain the fishing rod. Luckily, unlike previous versions of the game, you need not wait long to receive the fishing rod as your trainer already has the fishing rod right from the get-go!
The fishing mechanic in Pokémon Sword and Shield, however, is different from previous Pokémon games. To fish in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you must find a body of water like ponds, lakes, and the ocean. Then, you have to find fishing spots that are bubbling darkened patches of water (in contrast to previous Pokémon games where you can try and use the fishing rod anytime on any body of water). However, it is important to mention fishing spots usually vanish after a certain amount of time, but another may reappear after some time.
After finding a fishing spot, you can press A to interact with the fishing spot and throw a cast in. Then, wait for an exclamation point to appear on top of your trainer’s head and quickly press the A button again to reel in and start a battle with the Pokémon caught by the fishing rod.
Fishing can help you find different Water-type Pokémon depending on where you are fishing. So, every time you are near a body of water, and you see a fishing spot, make sure you stop by and use this method to continue catching ‘em all!
