With a franchise as self-serious as God of War, you wouldn’t expect there to be room for any whimsy, but a new ad for the game features dynamic duo Rick and Morty teasing an adventure into the nine realms.
Check them out:
It’s hilarious how the ad only runs for a minute, but the writers still found a way for Rick to be meta, from him teasing unannounced upgrades to Morty’s motivation being forced to resemble anything close to Atreus’ arc.
You really have to commend Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland for creating a brand that can basically go anywhere and market anything from a mature mythology game like God of War to sci-fi horror movies like Alien: Covenant. Heck, they can even use the same ad formula for fast food like Wendy’s and Pringles.
Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.
Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms.
God of War Ragnarok launches Nov. 9 for the PlayStation, but you can catch Rick and Morty which just launched its sixth season on HBO Max.
