Anya Taylor-Joy is currently one of the hottest young actresses today, and she’s managed to nab herself a role as Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie. What’s interesting is, Peach’s character poster is a reference to another property that Taylor-Joy worked on—The Queen’s Gambit.
The poster for Peach has her looking at the camera with her head resting on her hands. While things looked pretty normal, fans immediately thought the pose reminded them of another Anya Taylor-Joy project:
While the pose isn’t an exact duplication of the QG poster, a lot of fans thought it was kind of uncharacteristic for Peach, since her hands in the poster make her look kind of mischievous.
Who knows, maybe Peach is up to something we don’t know in the film, but so far, it seems that she’s a capable ruler who can still fight for her kingdom. A lot of fans are actually pretty pleased with the depiction of Peach in the trailer, seeing as she’s infamously a damsel in distress in the Mario franchise. If you ask me, she’s kind of giving off Princess Bubblegum vibes from Adventure Time, being the intelligent ruler of a kingdom full of cute candy-colored people.
So far, the movie looks amazing, and you’ll love all of the references to the games in the latest trailer alone. Though Mario is the lead of the story, a lot of fans are expecting Luigi to be integral to the plot as well. Hopefully this movie manages to entertain not just old-school fans, but newcomers to the world of Mario as well.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to launch in theaters on April 7, 2023.
