In the vast world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players are often presented with a multitude of intriguing tools and items to aid them on their heroic journey. The Zonai Fan is a unique and versatile instrument that opens up possibilities.
This guide will delve into how to use the Zonai Fan. We will explore its functions and uncover its pivotal role in solving puzzles and navigating the beautiful landscapes of this captivating game. With the Zonai Fan in hand, players can harness the power of the wind. With this, Link can embark on an adventure of creativity and strategic thinking. This is all while uncovering the secrets within the kingdom of Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom!
Zonai Fan
The Zonai Fan generates wind through the use of the propeller inside. Link can propel things or contraptions forward by utilizing the Zonai Fan to generate thrust. Zonai Devices are pre-built devices with a variety of effects and applications.
Like any other device, these Zonai Devices need power to function. Link’s Batteries, also known as Energy Cell, provides this power. The greater the number of Zonai Devices, the more power from Link’s Energy Cell is consumed.
How to Get the Zonai Fan
Link will be able to find Zonai Fans. as well as other Zonai Devices, around Hyrule. However, Link is unable to add these to his inventory. To do so, Link needs to get Zonai Devices as capsules. Link must first trade a few Zonai Charges for capsules of Zonai Devices at Zonai Device Dispensers to obtain them. These dispensers can be found all across Hyrule. It is important to note that Link cannot return the Zonai Device capsule to his inventory once he has dropped it on the ground.
Link can obtain a Zonai Fan by visiting the Zonai Device Dispensers listed below:
Device Dispenser | Region | Coordinates |
---|---|---|
Taunhiy Shrine Device Dispenser | Hyrule Ridge Sky | -2365, 0787, 0611 |
Kadaunar Shrine Device Dispenser | Eldin Canyon Sky | 1976, 1220, 1251 |
Jirutagumac Shrine Device Dispenser | Lanayru Great Spring Sky | 2913, 0510, 0951 |
Gutanbac Shrine Device Dispenser | Great Sky Island | 0073, -1265, 1579 |
Nachoyah Shrine Device Dispenser | Great Sky Island | 0440, -1680, 1443 |
Igoshon Shrine Device Dispenser | Lanayru Great Spring Sky | 3433, 0641, 1316 |
Taninoud Shrine Device Dispenser | Hebra Mountains Sky | -1726, 3377, 0949 |
Joku-u Shrine Device Dispenser | Faron Grasslands Sky | 1390, -3231, 0417 |
Joku-usin Shrine Device Dispenser | Faron Grasslands Sky | 1097, -3334, 0828 |
Makasura Shrine Device Dispenser | West Necluda | -0250, -0131, 0018 |
Hudson Construction Site Device Dispenser | Akkala Highlands | 3801, 1564, 0091 |
It is vital to note that each Zonai Device Dispenser only releases four different Zonai Devices. The devices that will drop are then randomized from the four Zonai Devices available. This means that while a dispenser might drop a certain Zonai Device, there is no assurance that the wanted device will be dropped.
As a result, trading five Zonai Charges instead of one is recommended. For trading one Zonai Charge, Link will get just one Zonai Device. However, swapping five Zonai Charges, or Large Zonai Charges, considerably increases the number of capsules dropped. If more Zonai Charges are dropped, you have a higher chance of acquiring a specific Zonai Device.
Steward Constructs are another means to obtain Zonai Device capsules. Link can purchase Zonai Devices from them, but rather than Rupees, the Steward Constructs will want Crystallized Charges. This is not a recommended method because Crystallized Charges are also required to increase the capacity of Link’s Energy Cell. If Link’s Energy Cell is already maxed or the player simply wishes to, this alternative remains possible.
How to Use the Zonai Fan
Link may attach a Zonai Fan on anything and use the generated wind to push or lift it. However, it is critical to consider the overall weight of the whole build. The more materials are added to the equipment, the heavier it will become. The heavier it is, the more Zonai Fans are required to lift the machine off the ground or push it.
The following are the basic contraptions that Link can build using the Zonai Fan in Tears of the Kingdom:
1. Powered Raft
Link can use the Zonai Fan to power up a raft in the game. With this, Link can move the raft in bodies of water. For this, Link must have the following materials:
- A base platform. For this, Link can easily find one from the various platforms available in the Hyrule Restoration Materials found across Hyrule. Alternatively, Link can create a makeshift platform using two or more logs. Link can chop two or more trees using axes to get logs to make one. Then, attach these logs side by side using the Ultrahand ability. Be careful not to hit the logs again with the axe as this will break and turn to wood, which Link can use to make a campfire.
- One or more Zonai Fans.
How to Build a Powered Raft
To make a Powered Raft, Link must do the following:
- First, lay all the materials flat on the ground. Drop the desired number of Zonai Fans on the ground from Link’s inventory.
- Next, press and hold the L button and use the right stick to select the Ultrahand ability. Aim the ability on one of the Zonai Fans and press the A button to grab it.
- After that, bring the Zonai Fan to one of the shorter sides of the base platform. Make sure that the Zonai Fan is facing away from the base platform. Once ready, press the A button to attach the Zonai Fan to the base platform.
- Finally, Link has now built a basic Powered Raft! With that, Link can use the Ultrahand ability to move the raft to a body of water and hit the Zonai Fan to activate it!
It is worth mentioning that the player can also attach a Zonai Steering Stick to the raft. With this, Link can maneuver the powered raft and not only move in one direction.
Also, the player can add more Zonai Fans to the raft. Doing so will result in the raft to move faster. However, more Zonai Devices mean it needs more power to work. Also, more power is needed to use the Powered Raft for longer.
2. Fan-Powered Car
In Tears of the Kingdom, there are many different ways to build a car. One possible way is with the help of Zonai Fans. To build a car powered by Zonai Fans, Link must have the following materials:
- A base platform. Again, the player can use different platforms from Hyrule Restoration Materials or make a platform by attaching two or more logs.
- Four wooden wheels. Link can also find some wooden wheels as part of the Hyrule Restoration Materials.
- Two or more Zonai Fans.
- A Zonai Steering Stick. Link can get capsules of the Zonai Steering Stick in the following Zonai Device Dispensers:
Zonai Device Dispenser | Region | Coordinates |
---|---|---|
Mayam Shrine Device Dispenser | Great Hyrule Forest Sky | 0436, 2821, 1820 |
Sihajog Shrine Device Dispenser | Lanayru Great Spring Sky | 4505, -0811, 1117 |
Kumamayn Shrine Device Dispenser | East Necluda Sky | 2851, -2951, 1212 |
Rakashog Shrine Device Dispenser | Gerudo Highlands Sky | -1777, -2027, 1148 |

How to Build a Fan-Powered Car
To build this, Link must do the following:
- First, compile all the necessary items on the ground. Drop all the necessary materials that are in Link’s inventory. These are the Zonai Fans and the Zonai Steering Stick.
- Then, while holding the L button, use the right stick to choose the Ultrahand ability. Aim at it and press the A button to grab one of the wooden wheels. Hold down the R button and use the directional buttons to rotate the wheel upright. Move this wooden wheel to one of the base platform’s corners and attach it using the A button. Make certain that the middle section of the wheel is what is attached to the base platform. Then, repeat this step for all the other wheels to the other corners of the base platform.
- After that, hit the L button again to activate the Ultrahand ability. Aim at the Zonai Steering Stick and push the A button to grab it. Hold the R button and rotate it with the directional buttons to position the Zonai Steering Stick upright. Bring it up to the top of the base platform and hit the A button to attach it. Make sure to attach it in the middle of the base platform facing either platform’s short sides.
- Next, press the L button to ready the Ultrahand ability. Aim at one of the Zonai Fans and press the A button to grab it. Bring it to the opposite side of where the Zonai Steering Stick is facing. Hold the R button and use the directional buttons to rotate the Zonai Fan. Set it upright and make it face away from the contraption. Press the A button to attach the Zonai Fan to the base platform. Set it on the platform with enough space remaining for another Zonai Fan. Do the same to the unattached Zonai Fan beside the other Zonai fan.
- Finally, the basic build for a fan-powered car is done! To use it, get up on the base platform and press the A button on the Zonai Steering Stick to use it. Doing so will activate the Zonai Fans and push the car forward.
In addition, the player can equip the car with more Zonai Fans and other Zonai Devices. As a result, the car will accelerate quicker with the help of the Zonai Fans. However, having more Zonai Devices requires more power to function. Furthermore, greater power is required to utilize the car for an extended time.
It is crucial to note that you should choose your base platform carefully to ensure the entire machine is as light as possible. The heavier the machine, the harder it must work to move the car.
3. Hover Bike
We will make a basic flying vehicle that Link can build in Tears of the Kingdom. Because this is a basic build, it can only support Link’s weight. This makes it ideal for exploring the land, the skies, and even the depths of Hyrule. To create a Hover Bike, Link will need the following materials:
- A small, thin base platform. Again, the player can use the thin wooden platforms from the Hyrule Restoration Materials.
- A Zonai Steering Stick
- Two Zonai Fans
How to Build a Hover Bike
To build a Hover Bike, Link must do the following:
- First, place all of the materials on the floor. Because there are few materials to use, it is preferable to hold the Zonai Devices in Link’s inventory one at a time and drop them rather than holding the up directional button to drop an item one at a time.
- Following that, hit the L button to activate the Ultrahand ability. Aim at the Zonai Steering Stick and push the A button to grab it. Place it on the small wooden platform, with the Zonai Device pointing towards one of its shorter sides. Hold the R button and rotate using the directional buttons if necessary.
- Then, hit the L button to activate the Ultrahand ability. Aim again for the small platform and press the A button to get it. Hold the R button and use the directional buttons to rotate and lay the attached items on their side. The shorter side of the little platform should be slightly upright, with the steering stick supporting it. Link may rotate the attached items to the left or right. However, we will place this tutorial on the right side to make it easier to grasp.
- After that, press the L button again to ready the Ultrahand ability. Aim for one of the Zonai Fans and press A to grab it. To rotate the Zonai Fan, hold the R button and utilize the directional buttons. Turn this Zonai Device so it is upright. Then, position it before the tiny platform and the Zonai Steering Stick.
- Position the Zonai Fan to face the opposite side of the Zonai Steering Stick. Rotate the Zonai Fan to form a 45-degree angle with the platform and Zonai Steering Stick. Before pressing the A button to attach the Zonai fan, ensure it is perfectly centered on the little platform. The Zonai Fan should be positioned with the front closer to the platform side.
- Following that, hit the L button again to activate the Ultrahand ability. Aim for the other Zonai Fan and press A to grab it. Hold the R button and rotate it again using the directional buttons. This Zonai Fan, like the other, should be upright, but instead of the front, bring it to the back of the small platform and Zonai Steering Stick.
- Turn the Zonai Fan so that the back side is towards the Zonai Steering Stick. Rotate the Zonai Fan to a 45-degree angle as well. Before pressing the A button to attach the Zonai fan, ensure it is perfectly centered on the little platform. The Zonai Fan should avoid the Steering Stick and tiny platform. However, due to the angle, the back of the Zonai Fan should face the side with the Zonai Steering stick.
- Finally, press the L button again to ready the Ultrahand ability. Aim for the small platform and press A to grab it. Hold the R button and use the directional buttons to turn the contraption upright. Link has built a Hover Bike after deactivating the Ultrahand ability using the B button.
Simply approach the Zonai Steering Stick and press the A button to utilize the Hover Bike. When Link steps aboard, the Zonai Fans start-up, lifting the entire machine off the ground. Then, Link may ride the Hover Bike all over Hyrule!
Make sure the Zonai Fans are centered on the little platforms. Otherwise, the entire machine will take off at an angle. As a result, the Hover Bike may become difficult to control and maneuver.
Link doesn’t require a lot of battery to utilize this flying machine because it only has a few Zonai Devices. However, as previously stated, if the player wishes to use it longer, Link must have more Energy Wells. Link can also attach Zonai Batteries to the contraption, although this may make the whole thing heavier.
How to Power Zonai Fans
As previously stated, Zonai Devices require power to function. This power comes from Link’s Energy Cells, which are rechargeable batteries. Furthermore, the more Zonai Devices are added to the contraption, the more battery it requires.
Furthermore, if the player prefers to use it for an extended time, Link must have more power in his Energy Cell. It is feasible to build it and work with Link’s default battery icon count of one. Link, however, will be able to use it quickly. Link must improve his Energy Cell to use builds for a longer time.
Energy Well
Link must collect Energy Wells to upgrade his Energy Cell and gain more batteries. A single Energy Well is equal to one-third of the battery icon. In other words, three Energy Wells correspond to a single battery icon. Link can gain an extra 45 Energy Wells for 48 Energy Wells in the game. These are equal to 16 battery icons.
Link needs to gather 100 Crystallized Charges to get a single Energy Well. Afterward, go to a Crystal Refinery and trade them for an Energy Well.
Crystallized Charge
Crystallized Charges come in three forms in the game: normal Crystallized Charges, Large Crystallized Charges, and Huge Crystallized Charges.
Link can obtain Crystallized Charges from several chests and bosses, including Flux Constructs and Froxes. However, the most common way to gain Crystallized Charges is from Forge Constructs. Link must exchange Zonaite for Crystallized Charges instead of Rupees.
The most basic type is only called a Crystallized Charge. Link must pay three Zonaites to Forge Constructs to receive one. Link must collect 300 Zonaites to collect 100 Crystallized Charges for one Energy Well.
Twenty Crystallized Charges are equal to one Large Crystallized Charge. So, rather than 100 Crystallized Charges, Link could generate one Energy Well with 5 Large Crystallized Charges. Link must trade three Large Zonaites with Forge Constructs to obtain a single Large Crystallized Charge.
He must gather 15 Large Zonaites to produce 5 Large Crystallized Charges to earn one Energy Well. Link can also obtain Large Crystallized Charges after beating Stalnoxes, Black Hinoxes, and Froxes.
The Huge Crystallized Charge is equivalent to 100 Crystallized Charges. Link can only get one Huge Crystallized Charge to create one Energy Well.
Unfortunately, Link cannot obtain Huge Crystallized Charges via Forge Constructs. After beating Master Kohga in the Great Abandoned Central Mine, the Abandoned Gerudo Mine, the Abandoned Lanayru Mine, and the Abandoned Hebra Mine, Link can earn Huge Crystallized Charges. In addition, Link can obtain a Huge Crystallized Charge for beating four regional monsters for the first time in a rematch in the Depths. These regional monsters are Colgera, Marbled Gohma, Queen Gibdo, and Mucktorok.
Crystal Refinery
Link can convert the Crystallized Charges he has collected into Energy Wells. Link can do so via going to the Crystal Refinery. A Crystal Refinery is located in front of the Nachoya Shrine. This Shrine is located in the southernmost area of Great Sky Island. This is near the Room of Awakening. Link can find the Crystal Refinery at 0363, -1652, 2298 coordinates.
Temporary Battery
Like his hearts and stamina, Link can also obtain temporary batteries. Link must utilize Zonai Charges to obtain them. Link gains a brief Energy Well as a result of the Zonai Charge. That means after Link has depleted the temporary Energy Well, it will not recharge.
It’s important to note that Zonai Charges only provide Link with temporary power when used with a fully charged battery. Otherwise, the Zonai Charge will replenish power equal to one Energy Well.
The Large Zonai Charge is another type of Zonai Charge. This item either refreshes or provides three temporary Energy Wells. Three Energy Wells are equivalent to one battery icon.
Link can buy Zonai Charges and Large Zonai Charges from Forge Constructs to obtain them. Link will receive one Zonai Charge for every two Zonaites and one Large Zonai Charge for every one Large Zonaite.
In addition to purchasing Zonai Charges, Link can get them as treasure from Soldier Constructs. Zonai Charges can be obtained from Soldier Construct I, Soldier Construct II, Soldier Construct III, Soldier Construct IV, Captain Construct I, Captain Construct II, Captain Construct III, Captain Construct IV, Training Construct, Flux Construct I, Flux Construct II, and Flux Construct III.
Link can acquire Large Zonai Charges by eliminating Soldier Construct IV, Captain Construct III, Captain Construct IV, Flux Construct II, and Flux Construct III.
