Overwatch 2 finally has a release date, and though we’ve already had a look at Sojourn, a lot of people are curious about the ruler of Junker Town, Junker Queen. An animated short had been teased a few days ago, but now we have the full cinematic The Wastelander, which shows JQ claiming the throne of Junkertown.

The Wastelander: Watch Junker Queen’s Full Animated Short from Overwatch

Watch this:

The short essentially gives us a look at how Junker Queen came to rule Junkertown, and it highlights a lot of her abilities, including a magnetic gauntlet that allows her to recall her weapons. Her ultimate, Rampage, is also teased, and it allows for her to rush forward in a whirlwind of shards of metal.

Though I was expecting more of the Junker characters like Roadhog to make an appearance, it’s only Junkrat that actually shows up as a member of the audience. Since he’s banned from Junkertown in the main game, there’s a lot of room for an animated short of him clashing with the Queen; maybe we can get hints with the new voice lines in OW2.

Besides the new cinematic, we also have an origin video for Junker Queen, and while it’s not as flashy as an animated short, each shot does make for a great wallpaper.

There’s going to be a lot of changes made to the game with the release of the sequel, but I’m hoping that we get the option to play the classic mode every once in a while.

Overwatch 2 launches for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch this coming Oct. 4.
