Illumination Entertainment has managed to gather quite the star-studded cast for their Super Mario Bros. Movie, and in a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show, Jack Black, who plays Bowser in the film, decided to dress as the King of the Koopas.

Black’s bit is basically that all the actors agreed to dress up as their characters, but he was the only one who really committed and it was too late for him to remove his costume. If anything, his appearance totally tracks with how a lot of people know Black’s comedy, and he gets very physical and manages to outshine the rest of the guests.

In a way, Bowser is the secret spice of the movie,” says Black, “He’s the devil incarnation. Monster— He’s like the Darth Vader of this universe, and that’s a lot of fun to play.”

While there was a lot of backlash with the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario online, a lot of fans immediately jumped onboard for Black’s Bowser when he was announced alongside everyone else. We don’t know if his Bowser is going to be as animated as Black himself, but it’s definitely going to be fun to watch him play around with everyone. I’m honestly still waiting for more of Chris Pratt’s Mario voice, but we’ll just have to wait for the movie to come out to really get a good idea of his Brooklyn/Italian accent.

Watch out for The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it comes to cinemas on April 5.
