The Last of Us won’t be the only game getting a series adaptation in January. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Sword Art Online and Kaguya-sama: Love is War, is also working on an anime based on NieR: Automata and we have a new trailer hyping up the January premiere.
Check it out:
Square Enix had released NieR: Automata back in 2017 and the game was a massive success, selling over 7 million copies worldwide. Since having multiple endings is part of the game, it would make sense that the anime would be named its own specific version.
So far, the trailer focuses on the main protagonists 2B and 9S, but we also get to see some other characters that we meet in the game. Some fans have also noticed that there are some characters that are only mentioned in the lore, but actually look to have a more major part in the anime.
Hopefully the anime won’t just be fun for fans of the game, but for people who are going into the anime blind.
Here’s the synopsis for the game:
Invaders from another world attack without warning – unleashing the machine lifeforms. To break the deadlock, a new breed of android infantry is sent into the fray: the YoRHa squad. Highly-acclaimed and award-winning NieR:Automata™ is a fresh take on the action role-playing game (RPG) genre that gracefully blends mesmerising action with a captivating story.
NieR: Automata Ver 1.1.a is set to premiere on Jan. 7, 2023. NieR: Automata the game is currently available for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.
