If you are trying to find all the Legendary and Nornir Chests in Alfeihm, this guide has got you covered!
While some realms in God of War Ragnarok are pretty bare regarding collectibles, the realm of Alfheim should provide players with hours of tasks, from collectibles to hunting and challenges, to keep them on their feet.
This particular guide looks at the Legendary and Nornir chests available in Alfheim, the realm of the Dark and Light Elves.
Legendary Chests
The game has several types of chests, but the Legendary Chests are different. They contain very special items that are rarer compared to what’s inside the more common wooden chest. Legendary Chests are made of gold and emit a very strong glow.
There are a total of 12 Legendary Chests in Alfheim:
Legendary Chest #1
Located in The Strond during Groa’s Secret, you must tackle a few enemies after being introduced to your first Twilight Stone. After the fight, you will see a lower path to the left. Drop down and head left, and you should see the chest.
Legendary Chest #2
Located in the Temple of Light during Groa’s Secret, go up some stairs that curve to the right, and you’ll find a spot that Kratos can drop down in on the left. Take the next left and drop down even further; turn left again, and you’ll spot the chest.
Legendary Chest #3
Located in the Temple of Light during Groa’s Secret, when you get to the second light door, there is a spot on the lower level where you can drop on the left. Once below, turn around and go through the golden doors. Grab the chain, pull it down, and throw the Leviathan axe at the Twilight Stone while holding it. Release the chain, recall the axe, drop down, and you’ll be able to access the chest.
Legendary Chest #4
Located in the Temple of Light during Groa’s Secret. After the first encounter with the Light Elves, there is a point where you have to grapple across; instead of going straight, go left. Swing the Twilight Stone with the Blades and bounce the Leviathan Axe off it when it swings to the right. Use the grapple points to climb up and find the chest from that point.
Legendary Chest #5
Located at The Barrens during Groa’s Secret, Dark Elves guard a building at the northwest corner of the desert; once you take them out, you can spot the chest on the left.
Legendary Chest #6
Find the giant skeleton at the northeast corner of The Barrens during Groa’s Secret. Hop into the mouth and grapple to a higher area; once inside, you’ll have to fight some enemies. After that, you can climb the wall at the back to find the chest.
Legendary Chest #7
Located at The Barrens during Groa’s Secret, complete the Secret of the Sands favor. On the south edge of the desert, there is a crack in the wall you can squeeze through. Clear the hive vines, and you’ll find the chest in the back of the room.
Legendary Chest #8
Located in The Below during Groa’s Secret, look for the cavern containing the Hafgufa (the giant jellyfish) at the bottom. Once you free the Hafgufa, head through the new passageway; there is a weak spot in the ceiling, and busting through will reveal the chest.
Legendary Chest #9
Located in The Burrows after completing The Reckoning, there is a combat room you can leave by climbing a wall to an archway. Get up there and throw the axe at the Twilight Stone below, hitting the Hive—this will expose a grapple point, which will help you get to the chest.
Legendary Chest #10
Located in The Burrows after completing The Reckoning, a new passage will open after freeing the other Hafgufa. Enter it, remove the enemies, and you should find the chest at the back of the room.
Legendary Chest #11
Located in The Forbidden Sands after completing The Reckoning and the favor Song of the Sands the south of the Forbidden Sands, you should see the glow from a chest from outside. Go over the edge and take out some enemies and Hive vines via the puzzle involving the Twilight Stones. Once the Hive is gone, the chest will become accessible.

Legendary Chest #12
Located in The Forbidden Sands after completing The Reckoning, while performing the favor The Elven Sanctum; you will find grapple points on both sides of the Sanctum, and you can use each to access the chest at the back.
Inside Legendary Chests are usually attachments to weapons, runic attacks, armor, and gear. With the game’s significant emphasis on weapons and armor, it would do a player good to fund all the Legendary Chests to ensure they have access to some top-notch gear they can mix and match with the ones that Brok and Sindri can forge.
Nornir Chests
As for Nornir Chests, they contain rare items as well, but unlike the other chests in the game, they have to be solved by being able to search for three specific runes. The activation of the runes will depend on the chest, but they will make good use of your skills as Kratos, whether it be control of your weapons or the speed of your aim.
There are a total of 7 Nornir Chests in Alfheim:
Nornir Chest #1
Located in The Strond during Groa’s Secret, the chest can be found after squeezing through a gap and dropping down from the left.
Nornir Chest #2
Located in The Strond during Groa’s Secret, can only be done after completing Forging Destiny. After the first fight with the Light Elves, you must lift a pillar to progress. Going straight and to the right, you will find the chest.
Nornir Chest #3
Located in The Temple of Light during Groa’s Secret, you’ll find the chest right after you create the light bridge by pushing over a statue.
Nornir Chest #4
Located in The Barrens during Groa’s Secret, a place at the northernmost part of the Barrens is covered in Hive vines. On the west of the building, you can cut through the vines, and when you do, go around to the other side, and you’ll find the chest.
Nornir Chest #5
Located in The Bellow during Groa’s Secret, you’ll find a bunch of vines and grapple points after zipping down the line. Grapple across the canyon and get down to the lower part; ahead is the Nornir chest.
Nornir Chest #6
Located in the Forbidden Sands after completing the favor Song of the Sands and The Reckoning, there is a fallen pillar at the southwest of the Sands with a love heart painted on the rock. Pass under the pillar to find the chest.
Nornir Chest #7
Located in The Forbidden Sands after The Reckoning, go to the Elven library east of the Forbidden Sands. You have to clear rubble on the ground by hitting with a weapon, and you can press Circle to enter a hidden area. Following the path will lead you to a Nornir’s chest.
A majority of the Nornir chests in Alfheim will grant you Horns of Blood Mead and Idunn Apples, which will expand your overall HP and Rage Meter, but the last chest will grant you 10 Shattered Runes and the Alfheim’s Justice amulet enchantment.
Final Notes
Some chests can’t be accessed until specific missions like The Reckoning. However, it also helps to fully explore an area before moving forward, especially since it could be difficult to return to certain places (i.e., The Temple of Light). Since a lot of things are accessible during Groa’s Secret, it’s best to just scour the entire place for goods rather than come back later.
