There has been a lot of confusion as to why there wasn’t a crossplay feature for so long in Destiny 2. Now, Bungie has came out to say that players should expect crossplay later this year. But until then, it seems as though some players can access crossplay early. So, how to crossplay early in Destiny 2? Well, let’s dive in a little deeper.
How to Crossplay – Destiny 2
This feature wasn’t meant to be live as early as it went live. This was acknowledged by a Bungie community team member officially through twitter.
There have been many instances since the recent update, of players getting on crossplay, and it seems entirely possible. Cozmo, the community team member of Bungie, also went on to say that this will be removed soon, but players are free to partake in the meanwhile.
So, how do you do it? Well, to crossplay in Destiny 2, follow the steps below:
- Start Destiny 2 on PC, and don’t log in. Leave the client at the ‘press to play’ screen.
- Go on a platform from which you want to play the game, and log into the game.
- Now, the other players must login on Steam, and add you as their friend. After that, they will be able to see you logged in, and join you.
- Once your buddy joins your party from Steam, crossplay is possible.
Now, this is highly inconvenient, since you do have to login on Steam and link all of your accounts, but still, for accessing a feature a lot earlier that it is intended to be live is fun nonetheless.
However, since this was unintentional, there are still bugs and issues that players might encounter. The point is, that the crossplay feature might not be a pleasurable experience after all.
This is also great for troubleshooting for Bungie, since they can see how the game performs for a crossplay feature, and therefore make it more optimized or fix any issues with it. There isn’t an exact date of when this will be patched, but chances are, that it will be soon!
