Race through town with Franklin and Lamar in GTA5’s first official mission.
Many players probably did not give this mission much thought when the game came out in 2013. After all, players probably want to get the first mission out of the way so they can finally explore Los Santos and everything it has to offer. That is perfectly understandable, but the Franklin and Lamar mission is still part of 100% completion, as players must complete multiple Gold Medal objectives to get that sought-after 100% save file.
We have outlined everything you need to know about the Franklin and Lamar mission in GTA 5 and how you can get a Gold Medal for completing the mission.
Franklin and Lamar Synopsis
At the start of the mission, you get a good look at Michael’s life in the current timeline. Michael is now in Los Santos, living a new life, but he frequently visits his therapist, Mr. Friedlander, as he is still fighting against his past.
After his therapy session, Michael strolls down Pacific Bluffs’ coastline to wind down. Coincidentally, Franklin and Lamar were also taking a stroll down the same sidewalk, looking for the cars Simeon asked them to repo from the area.
While walking on the sidewalk, Franklin and Lamar come across Michael sitting on one of the benches. Lamar shamelessly asks Michael for directions. Franklin calls Lamar out for doing something unnecessary, but Michael gives them the needed information.
Franklin and Lamar head to the house Michael had pointed to them, and they immediately spot the cars they need to collect for Simeon.
Both men take the cars and run a race across town to give the cars a quick shakedown. Both men quickly stop in the Union Depository parking lot before they split up. However, Franklin gets caught up when a few cops show up. Franklin eventually loses the cops and makes his way to Simeon’s dealership.
Franklin arrives at the dealership and sees Lamar, who has been eavesdropping on a conversation between Simeon and a client. Lamar butts in on the conversation and calls the client a racist. Franklin leaves before things heat up, prompting Lamar to follow him as they go home to the same neighborhood.
Back home, Franklin and Lamar get into a quick argument, which ends with Lamar blaming Franklin’s haircut for his breakup with Tanisha. Franklin is visibly annoyed but also realizes he needs a haircut.
For now, Franklin heads inside and gets some rest.
Franklin and Lamar Gold Medal Objectives
- Not a Scratch: Deliver the repossessed car with minimal damage.
- Focused Driver: Use Franklin’s special ability for 7 seconds.
- Winner: Win the race against Lamar.
- We Come in Peace: Avoid hitting any aliens in the movie studio.
All Gold Medal objectives for this mission can be completed through multiple replays. You can come back another time and replay the mission to get the rest of the Gold Medal objectives.
Franklin and Lamar Mission Guide
Choose one of two cars. We recommend you pick the white convertible as it offers a more predictable handling characteristic compared to the erratic handling of the red one.
Follow Lamar closely. Avoid damaging the car as much as possible to hit the Not a Scratch Gold Medal objective.
You can start using Franklin’s special ability when you reach this street. Feel free to spam his ability to clear tight turns and avoid collisions. You also need to use Franklin’s ability for 7 seconds to complete the Focused Driver Gold Medal Objective.
One of the Gold Medal objectives requires you to avoid hitting any alien actors in the movie studio. Stay close to Lamar and let him tank the aliens so you do not accidentally crash into them. This will check off the We Come In Peace Gold Medal objective.
Use Franklin’s ability to avoid the truck and clear the alley turn.
Use Franklin’s special ability again to clear the parking lot turn.
Skip this cutscene if you want to save time but get ready to run away from the cops.
After the cop chase, make your way back to the dealership.
Get Franklin’s car and drive to his house in Strawberry.
Park the car in the garage. The mission should end after a brief cutscene.
Repossessing Cars On The Side
Choosing the right car at the start of the mission will make Franklin and Lamar much easier to complete. Many players probably only opted for the red car as this was the obvious choice, but choosing the white car will let you keep up with Lamar much easier and help you complete the rest of the Gold Medal objectives.
