Hollow Knight, a Metroidvania action-adventure game made by Team Cherry, follows the journey of a nameless warrior known as the Knight as they wander over Hallownest, devastated by a mysterious disease.
As the Knight goes around Hallownest, he can obtain new items, abilities, spells, and charms, allowing the Knight to explore new areas and battle foes.
These items in the game include Vessel Fragments. These Vessel Fragments are Soul Vessel parts that you must obtain to increase the Knight’s maximum Soul by 33.
The Knight must collect three Vessel Fragments to make one Soul Vessel, contributing 33 to the Knight’s Soul Meter.
You can collect Soul by hitting enemies with the Nail. However, you can only obtain Soul for Soul Vessels at a reduced rate of 6 Souls.

On the other hand, equipping Charms such as the Soul Catcher and Soul Eater charms can accelerate the rate at which Soul is collected for Soul Vessels.
When the main Soul Meter runs out of space, the Soul stored on the Soul Vessels will fill it quickly after a short pause.
There are nine Vessel Fragments in total, implying that the Knight can have three additional Soul Vessels, doubling the amount of Soul the Knight can carry.

City of Tears Vessel Fragment
The Vessel Fragment in the City of Tears area can be found at the end of a room filled with many enemies, with the room being near an elevator in the western part of the City of Tears.

Before the Knight acquires the Vessel Fragment in the City of Tears, the Knight must have the Mantis Claw ability. It allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off them. Otherwise, the knight needs the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in midair. With these abilities, finding and obtaining the Vessel Fragment in the City of Tears area will be no challenge.
Finding the Vessel Fragments
- Starting from the Bench in the King’s Station Stag Station and head to the left to exit the room. Continue heading to the left, and jump up the platform above on the left.
- The Knight finds a Husk Hornhead and jumps up the platform above on the right. There the Knight will run into a Husk Dandy. Finally, jump up the platform above on the left, head to the left, and take the exit that leads above.
- Next, head to the right, where the Knight will encounter another Husk Dandy, a Cowardly Husk, and a Gluttonous Husk. Near the path’s end, jump up the platform above on the left with the help of the Monarch Wings or the Mantis Claw ability.
- There the Knight will encounter a Husk Sentry. Head to the left and enter the elevator at the end of the path (or strike the level first to call for the elevator). Strike the lever in the elevator to ride it upwards.
- Then, on the first stop, head to the right, where the Knight will find a Winged Sentry. Enter the elevator on the right and strike the lever in the elevator to ride it up (second stop). Head to the left, where the Knight will encounter another Husk Dandy.
- Jump up the platform above on the left with the help of the Monarch Wings or the Mantis Claw ability. Then take the exit above.
- Afterward, head to the right, where the path to continue and back will be closed. The Knight must defeat a couple of waves of enemies to continue.
- The Knight must defeat a Husk Dandy, a Cowardly Husk, a Gluttonous Husk, three Husk Sentries, three Heavy Sentries, and five Winged Sentries.
- Finally, the path to continue and back will be opened after defeating all the enemies. Head to the right. At the end of the room, the Knight will find a Vessel Fragment floating on a pedestal. The Knight can now jump toward the Vessel Fragment to obtain it!
Once the Knight has obtained the Vessel Fragment in the City of Tears, all the Knight needs now are two more Vessel Fragments to complete a Soul Vessel and raise the amount of Souls that the Knight can carry!
