Hollow Knight: How to Obtain the Vessel Fragment in Deepnest

Hollow Knight, a Team Cherry Metroidvania action-adventure game, chronicles the journey of a nameless warrior known as the Knight as they explore Hallownest, which a strange illness has decimated. The Knight can earn new items, abilities, spells, and charms as they travel around Hallownest, allowing them to explore new places and defeat opponents.

Vessel Fragments are one of the items in the game. These Vessel Fragments are Soul Vessel components that must be gathered for the Knight’s maximum Soul to be increased by 33.

To build one Soul Vessel, the Knight must collect three Vessel Fragments, which adds 33 to the Knight’s Soul Meter.

Soul can be obtained by hitting foes with the Nail but at a decreased rate of 6 Soul for Soul Vessels. Charms like the Soul Catcher and Soul Eater can speed up the rate at which Soul is acquired. When the main Soul Meter runs out of space, the Soul Vessels’ Soul will instantly fill it up after a brief pause.

There are nine Vessel Fragments, meaning the Knight can have three additional Soul Vessels, doubling the quantity of Soul the Knight can carry.

Deepnest Vessel Fragment in Hollow Knight

A Vessel Fragment can be found near the top of a room filled with spikes and Garpedes. It is above the room where the Tram can be found in the bottom leftmost part of the Deepnest area.

There are many enemies in Deepnest, but the Knight will only encounter a bunch of Garpedes and a Dirtcarver on the way to the Vessel Fragment in the Deepnest area.

Before the Knight can obtain the Vessel Fragment in Deepnest, the Knight must have learned the Mothwing Cloak ability. It allows the Knight to dash forward horizontally, and the Mantis Claw ability enables the Knight to cling to walls and jump off them to climb them. Although not required, it would also help if the Knight had learned the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in midair. With the help of these abilities, obtaining the Vessel Fragment in Deepnest will be easy.

To find and obtain the Vessel Fragment in Deepnest in Hollow Knight, this is what the Knight must do:

1. Starting from the Bench inside the Tram in the southeasternmost part of Deepnest, exit the Tram and head to the left to exit the room.
   
2. Then, head to the left, jump up the slightly elevated platform, wait for the Garpede above to pass through, quickly jump up the opening above, quickly head to the right, jump up the opening above, head to the left, wait for the Garpede above to pass through, quickly jump up the opening above, quickly head to the left, jump across the gap, continue heading to the left, then drop down the next opening.
   
3. Next, head to the left, and wait for the Garpede above to pass through. Quickly jump up the narrow opening above and head slightly to the right. Jump up to the narrow opening above. Then jump up the slightly elevated platform on the right, and take the exit above.
   
4. After that, head up the wall on the right with the help of the Mantis Claw ability. Jump towards the platform at the top and head to the right. At the platform’s edge, wait for the Garpede below to appear.
   
5. Drop down towards the Garpede and repeatedly Nail-bounce on top of the Garpede while moving to the right (watch out for the spikes midway above). Jump towards the wall on the right and head up the wall with the help of the Mantis Claw ability.
   
6. At the top, jump above the height of the spikes on the platform. Then dash to the right with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability to pass through the spikes. Drop down the same Garpede below. Continue Nail-bouncing on top of it while moving to the right, and jump towards the platform on the right where the Knight will run into a Dirtcarver.
   
7. Then, head to the right and head up the platform above on the right. Continue heading to the right, at the platform’s edge, and wait for the Garpede below to appear. Drop down the gap on the right without hitting the spikes on the wall.
   
8. Continue Nail-bouncing on top of the Garpede while moving to the right. Jump towards the wall on the right and head up the wall with the help of the Mantis Claw ability. At the top, jump above the height of the spikes on the platform. Dash to the right with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability to pass through the spikes.
   
9. Drop down back to the Garpede, and continue Nail-bouncing on top of the Garpede while moving to the right. Jump towards another wall on the right, and climb with the help of the Mantis Claw ability.
   
10. At the top, jump above the height of the spikes on the platform. Then dash to the right again with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability to pass through the spikes.
    
11. Drop down the Garpede again and continue Nail-bouncing on top of it while moving to the right. Then jump towards the platform on the right. It is worth noting that there is a Soul Totem behind the breakable wall on the right.
    
12. Next, continue to the right, where the Knight will find a Garpede that is moving upwards. Wait for the Garpede to start moving from underground and jump on top of it.
    
13. Start Nail-bouncing on top of the Garpede to move upwards. Pass through the narrow opening above with spikes, and jump towards the platform on the left.
    
14. Finally, head to the left and drop down two platforms. There the Knight will find a Vessel Fragment floating on a pedestal. The Knight can now jump toward the Vessel Fragment to obtain it!
    

To leave the area, follow the path on the left to the end. Part of the floor will break and lead the Knight to the room’s entrance.

After obtaining the Vessel Fragment in the Deepnest area in Hollow Knight, the Knight requires two more Vessel Fragments to form a Soul Vessel and increase the amount of Soul the Knight can carry!
