One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Chaas Qeta Shrine or A Major Test in Strength. As the title of the shrine suggests, this shrine requires Link to prove his strength by killing a Guardian Scout to complete the shrine. Ready your strength for this significant test to establish yourself as the hero of Hyrule. This guide will teach you how to complete the Chaas Qeta Shrine and get the chest.
Link will be rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. The Spirit Orbs obtained can be exchanged for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. As there are 120 Shrines all over Hyrule, Link will get a total of 120 Spirit Orbs. You get to decide whether you want Link to have more Hearts or more Stamina.
Location
Chaas Qeta Shrine is located on Tenoko Island in the middle of the Necluda Sea, found in southeast Hyrule. The shrine can be reached by jumping and paragliding off a cliff (Cape Cales is the best cliff to do this from) or by creating ice blocks using the Cryonis Rune’s ability to use as a bridge from Hateno Beach to Tenoko Island. The Chaas Qeta Shrine is one of seven shrines in the Hateno Tower Region.
A Major Test in Strength
It is important to note Link will face a Guardian Scout IV in this shrine, which is one of the most challenging enemies in the game (this shrine is called MAJOR Test in Strength, after all). So, before descending to the Chaas Qeta Shrine, Link has enough hearts, weapons, shields, bows, arrows, food for health (cooked or not), and strong armor to use.
Upon entering Chaas Qeta Shrine, you will see an entrance to a vast room just ahead of Link. In this big room are giant concrete pillars. To complete this shrine, this is what Link must do:
- Proceed to the entrance and after going through the door, a gate will close behind Link and a Guardian Scout IV will emerge from the ground. This Guardian Scout will be armed with an axe, a spear, and a sword.
- Now you must kill this Guardian Scout. At the beginning of the battle, The Guardian will attack with slow blows. You can simply dodge the attacks or, and it would be better to, dodge at the perfect time to perform a Flurry Rush and deal damage.
- After taking enough damage, the Guardian Scout will start to jump back and start spinning rapidly towards Link with its weapons facing outwards. When it charges towards Link, hide behind a pillar so that it will hit it and cause the Guardian Scout to be stunned which will then be an opportunity to deal damage. The Guardian Scout can also shoot lasers which can be dodged by moving or dodging away or deflected using the shield.
- After depleting its health to around half, the Guardian Scout will jump back and fire a constant laser in a large arc around it which will inflict damage if Link is hit. Fortunately, the spinning laser will also cause an updraft. You can jump towards the updraft and quickly use the Paraglider to go high up in the air. Once Link is up in the air, aim the bow and arrow to slow down time and fire an arrow on its eye to stun it and deal damage. If you do not want to do that, you can simply stand out of the laser’s range then aim and fire an arrow at the right time to hit the Guardian Scout’s eye to stun it and deal damage (but, come on, that first method is just cooler and not to mention easier to hit the Guardian Scouts eye).
- When its health is almost depleted, the Guardian Scout will turn blue and will start absorbing energy while targeting Link with a red laser (similar to Guardian Stalkers and Decayed Guardians). After absorbing enough energy (accompanied with a sound that goes higher and higher in pitch), it will fire several blasts towards its target which can deal major damage. You can close the distance by running towards it then attack and deal damage while the Guardian Scout is still absorbing energy (you can fire several arrows in its eyes to deal major damage). To evade the blasts, sprint around the Guardian Scout until it absorbs energy again.
- After defeating it, the Guardian Scout will drop its weapons, a Guardian Sword++, an Ancient Battle Axe++, and a Guardian Spear, for the taking along with a couple of Ancient Springs and Screws. The gate to the altar will also open.
- Continue up ahead towards the altar where you will see a chest just before the altar. Open the chest to obtain a Climbing Gear.
- Then, continue up the stairs and talk to the monk to claim your Spirit Orb.
