One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Voo Lota Shrine or The Winding Route. This Shrine requires Link to use the Paraglider to glide on the wind of several fans to obtain a small key in order to open the door to access the altar of the shrine without falling on the lava below. Before Link can access the shrine, however, Link must first complete the Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest. This shrine and shrine quest may seem confusing and intimidating but the shrine and shrine quest is actually fairly easy to complete and in this guide, you’ll learn how to complete the Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest, access and complete the Voo Lota Shrine, obtain the chests inside, and claim the Spirit Orb.
Link will be rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. The Spirit Orbs obtained can be exchanged for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. As there are a total of 120 Shrines all over Hyrule, Link will be able to get a total of 120 Spirit Orbs. You get to decide whether you want Link to have more Hearts or more Stamina.
Location
Link will not be able to access the Voo Lota Shrine immediately but it will emerge from the ground in Warbler’s Nest in the west of the Rito Village just across Lake Totori in the northwestern part of Hyrule (the shrine can be found northwest of Cuho Mountain and north of Passer Hill or southwest of the Flight Range and the Sha Warvo Shrine). The Voo Lota Shrine is one of six shrines in the Tabantha Tower region.
Recital at Warbler’s Nest
As mentioned above, Link must first complete the Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest in order to access the Voo Lota Shrine. Before Link can start this Shrine Quest, however, Link must first complete the Divine Beast Vah Medoh main quest.
After doing that, Link can now start the shrine quest! In order to start the Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest, head to the flight deck near the Akh Va’quot Shrine in the Rito Village and there you will find a green Rito woman named Amali. Talk to her and she will tell Link that she could not find Kheel anywhere and that maybe she went to Warbler’s Nest to practice her singing but she thinks it is too far away and she is very worried. After that, a side quest titled Find Kheel will start. In order to complete this side quest, Link must, well, find Kheel! As Amali has mentioned, Kheel can be found in Warbler’s Nest just west of Rito Village just across Lake Totori (the location where the Voo Lota Shrine will emerge and can be found). Head there and you will find Kheel, the purple little Rito girl, near an ancient pedestal. Talk to Kheel and she will tell Link that her sisters are dummies as they promised that they would rehearse for their performance for the elder at Warbler’s Nest but none of them showed up. After that, Kheel will say that maybe she can use Link as he looks like a nice guy who likes to help people in need. She will then ask Link to tell her sisters in the Rito Village to stop ditching their rehearsal as they will not listen to her but maybe they will listen to a “scary-looking” Hylian like Link. She will then follow up that one of her sisters, Geni, might be a tough sell as she is probably in the kitchen asking for some Salmon Meunière. Then, after talking to Kheel, the Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest has started!
Link can head back to Amali, still on the flight deck near the Akh Va’quot Shrine, and talk to her to complete the Find Kheel Side Quest. She will reward Link with a Purple Rupee (50 Rupees) for your troubles.
Link has to find all four of Kheels sisters: Kotts, Cree, Notts, and Genli. The following are their locations and what Link needs to do to get them back to Kheel and start rehearsing:
- Kotts – Kotts can be found in a pond at the top of a rock pillar before the last bridge that leads to the entrance of the Rito Village in the east. Talk to Kotts, who is a yellow little Rito girl, and she will tell Link that she is fishing for Hearty Salmon then suddenly remember about their rehearsal which she says she totally forgot because she was too focused on catching the Hearty Salmon. Kotts will then give Link a Hearty Salmon which will help in making the Salmon Meunière for Genli.
- Cree – Cree can be found inside The Slippery Falcon which is the village’s general store (this is the second building that can be found from the entrance of the Rito Village just ahead of the Swallow’s Roost Inn). Talk to Cree, who is a blue little Rito girl, and she will tell Link that she bought some Goat Butter but then she will also suddenly remember their rehearsal. Cree will give Link a piece of Goat Butter which will help in making the Salmon Meunière for Genli, who will not sing unless she has eaten. She will also give a clue on where to find their older sister, Notts, who she says is probably practicing her songs somewhere up high.
- Notts – Notts can be found near a ledge high up on the southwestern side of the rock pillar in the middle of the Rito Village. In order to reach Notts, simply climb up on the rock wall just in front of the bridge that leads to Amali and the Akh Va’quot Shrine and, as you climb up, you will hear someone singing. It is worth noting that the climb to reach Notts will consume at least one and three quarters of Link’s stamina wheel so make sure that Link has stamina-replenishing foods and elixirs if you do not have enough stamina or the climbing set (Climber’s Bandana, Climbing Gear, and/or Climbing Boots) to increase Link’s climbing speed. A better method would be to use Revali’s Gale to easily reach Notts. Upon finding Notts, who is a pink little Rito Girl, talk to her and she will tell Link that the song that she was just singing is called the “Return of Bird-Wrangling Hero… First Movement”. She will then say that she did not forget about their rehearsal at Warbler’s Nest as she was looking for ingredients for Genli’s Salmon Meunière, as did her other sisters. She says she finished early so she was practicing in the area to kill time. Notts will then give Link some Tabantha Wheat which will help in making the Salmon Meunière for Genli.
- Genli – Genli can be found beside the cooking pot in the kitchen which is the second house from the Brazen Beak, the clothing store in the village (the kitchen is the third house from the general store). Talk to Genli, who is a green little Rito girl, and she will tell Link that she needs Salmon Meunière in her belly before she can rehearse with Kheel and her sisters. After talking to Genli, press the + button to go to Link’s inventory, select the Hearty Salmon that Kotts gave and select Hold on the prompt, look for the Goat Butter that Cree gave and press the A button to add it to what Link is holding, look for the Tabantha Wheat that Notts gave and press the A button to add it to what Link is holding, press the B button to return to the game, go near the cooking pot, then press the A button to cook the ingredients. Once it is done, Link will obtain a Salmon Meunière! After that, talk to Genli and she will smell the Salmon Meunière which she will ask if Link will let her have some. Select ‘Enjoy!’ on the prompt and Link will give Genli the Salmon Meunière which she will immediately eat. Genli will then say that she supposes that she should not break her promise to her sister and that she really does like singing however she is too nervous to sing in front of other people but she thinks that maybe practicing with her sisters will help her feel more comfortable. She will then thank Link for the Salmon Meunière and say that she will give this rehearsal her all.
After finding all of Kheel’s sisters, head back to Warbler’s Nest just west of Rito Village just across Lake Totori and there you will find Kheel, Kotts, Cree, Notts, and Genli. Talk to Kheel and she will thank Link for helping her talk to her sisters and now they can rehearse. Kheel will then say that the song that they are going to sing, according to their elder, is a song passed down in the Rito Village that was once sung at Warbler’s Nest which is the ancient pedestal with the stone pillars behind them. She will also say that the lyrics of the song do not make that much sense to them but there is one line that always catches her ear which goes:
“When wind convinces the rock to sing, open the monk’s door will swing.”
After that, Kheel will give Link a Korok Leaf as a thanks for bringing all of her sisters to Warbler’s Nest. After talking to Kheel, you will see that Kheel and her sister will start rehearsing. Talk to Kheel again and she will again recite the line above and she and her sisters will start singing in this order: Cree (blue), Kheel (purple), Genli (green), Notts (pink), then Kotts (yellow).
In order to finally complete this shrine quest, Link must use the Korok Leaf to blow a gust of wind on the stone pillars in the correct order. To do this, this is what Link must do:
- Let Link stand on top of the ancient pedestal and you will see that the stone pillars surrounding the pedestal have little pillars on top of them that correspond to their pillar number, and a hole in the middle.
- Link must now strike the Korok Leaf to blow a gust of wind on the pillars in the correct order. The order is based on the order that Kheel and her sisters sang which is Cree (4th from the left), Kheel (5th from the left), Genli (3rd), Notts (1st), and Kotts (2nd). With that in mind, face the stone pillar with four little pillars on top and press the Y button to blow a gust of wind on it using the Korok Leaf. A blue note will then appear in the middle and make a sound.
- Face the stone pillar with five little pillars on top and press the Y button to blow a gust of wind on it using the Korok Leaf. A purple note will then appear in the middle and make a sound.
- Face the stone pillar with three little pillars on top and press the Y button to blow a gust of wind on it using the Korok Leaf. A green note will then appear in the middle and make a sound.
- Face the stone pillar with one little pillar on top and press the Y button to blow a gust of wind on it using the Korok Leaf. A pink note will then appear in the middle and make a sound.
- Face the stone pillar with two little pillars on top and press the Y button to blow a gust of wind on it using the Korok Leaf. A yellow note will then appear in the middle and make a sound.
After that, the Voo Lota Shrine will emerge just behind the Warbler’s Nest. The Recital at Warbler’s Nest Shrine Quest is now completed and Link can now access the Voo Lota Shrine!
The Winding Route
Upon entering the Voo Lota Shrine, you will see that Link will be in a small room and in front of him is a narrow corridor with a very tall ladder at the end. In order to complete this shrine, this is what Link must do:
- First, head to the corridor and let Link climb to the top of the very tall ladder.
- At the top of the ladder, you will see another small corridor with a switch at the end. Go near the switch. Before hitting the switch, it is important to mention that the floor that Link is standing on will be opened and Link will be dropped to a very tall height after the switch is struck so be ready. Strike the switch with any of Link’s weapons then, once Link is dropped, quickly press the X button to use Link’s Paraglider.
- As Link is gliding down, you will see that there are a lot of tall platforms and below them is a large pool of lava. There are also fans blowing a constant gust of wind connecting the distanced platforms. The altar and the monk can be seen on top of a platform in the middle of the room but the entryway is closed. Glide down towards the platform on the left side of the room.
- On this platform, you will see a fan blowing a constant gust of wind on the northern end. Head to the fan, let Link stand on the fan, press the X button to jump, then quickly press the X button again to use Link’s Paraglider so that Link will be blown upwards. At the peak of the glide, you will see a see-through platform with another fan on its northern end but this time the fan is facing to the right.
- Land on the see-through platform, go near the fan, and face the direction that the wind is blowing towards. There you will see that the path of the wind is blocked by a tall wall of spikes and below it is a small platform that also has spikes. Jump off the ledge of the see-through platform then quickly press the X button again to use the Paraglider, glide towards the wall of spikes, once Link has passed the small platform with spikes and is near the wall of spikes, press the B button to cancel the use of the Paraglider, then, once Link is below the wall of spikes, quickly press the X button to use the Paraglider again and be blown towards the next platform.
- There is another wall of spikes on this next platform so make sure to press the B button to cancel the Paraglider and land on the platform before Link hits the spikes. There is also a chest near the wall of spikes. Open the chest to obtain a Small Key.
- Next, face towards the direction that the chest is facing and you will see a platform just ahead but slightly below. Jump off the ledge, quickly press the X button to use the Paraglider, then land on the platform.
- Follow the path of this platform onto the see-through path and you will see a fan behind the wall of spikes and a ramp just ahead of it. Go up the ramp and you will see a chest on top of a small platform. Jump off the ledge, quickly press the X button to use the Paraglider, then land on the small platform. Open the chest to obtain a Flameblade.
- After that, jump off the small platform on the right side of the chest, quickly press the X button to use the Paraglider, and land on the platform ahead. Upon landing on the platform, you will see another fan on the right side. Face the direction that the wind from the fan is blowing towards, jump off the see-through platform then quickly press the X button again to use the Paraglider, glide towards the see-through platform ahead to land back on the previous platform.
- Go near the fan near the ramp, face the direction that the wind from the fan is blowing towards, jump off the see-through platform then quickly press the X button again to use the Paraglider, glide towards the see-through platform ahead with the closed entryway to the altar and the monk.
- Finally, go near the closed entryway, press the A button to open it using the Small Key that was obtained earlier, go near the altar, talk to the monk, and claim your Spirit Orb!
As mentioned above, the Voo Lota Shrine or The Winding Route is one of six shrines in the Tabantha Tower region. The other shrines are the Kah Okeo Shrine or the Wind Guide, the Sha Warvo Shrine or the Path of Hidden Winds, the Tena Ko’sah Shrine or the Path of Hidden Winds, the Akh Va’quot Shrine or the Windmills, and the Bareeda Naag Shrine or the Cannon.
