One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Maag Halan Shrine, or the Maag Halan’s Blessing. The Shrine itself is no challenge at all. As you enter the Kuhn Sidajj Shrine, you will find that Link can access the Shrine’s chest, access the altar, and talk to the monk immediately. The real challenge is completing The Test of Wood Shrine Quest to access Maag Halan Shrine. In this guide, you’ll learn how to complete The Test of Wood Sight Shrine Quest to access and complete Maag Halan Shrine, obtain the chest inside, and claim the Spirit Orb.

Link is rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. You can exchange these Spirit Orbs for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. Hyrule houses 120 Shrines, so Link can also get 120 Spirit Orbs. You get to decide whether you want Link to have more Hearts or more Stamina.

The Maag Halan Shrine can be found in the northeastern part of the Great Hyrule Forest and the Korok Forest. As mentioned above, Link must first complete The Test of Wood Shrine Quest in order to reach the Maag Halan Shrine.

The Maag Halan Shrine is one of eight shrines in the Woodland Tower region.

The Test of Wood Shrine Quest is one of three Shrine Quests of the Korok Trials. The Korok Trials is a side quest in Breath of the Wild where the Korok elder Chio tells Link that the Koroks have prepared a series of trials for him and once he has completed all of the trials, Chio believes he will be able to pull the Master Sword from its Pedestal.

To start the Korok Trials, make your way through the Lost Woods which is just ahead of the path from the Woodland Tower until you reach the Korok Forest. Upon arriving, you will see the Pedestal with the Master Sword on it and just ahead is a Korok that looks bigger than the other ones named Chio (the elder of Korok Forest) and behind him are the local shops and the Great Deku Tree. Talk to Chio and he will recognize Link as the Hero. Chio will tell Link that the Koroks have prepared some trials for him. Confirm on the prompt and after that, the Korok Trials will be started and to complete it, Link must complete three Shrine Quests: the Trial of Second Sight, The Lost Pilgrimage, and, the shrine quest we are going to talk about. The Test of Wood.

To start The Test of Wood, head to the path east of the Pedestal and the Master Sword and take the path on Hetsu’s right. Follow the path until you reach a Korok at the side of the path named Damia. Talk to Damia and he will tell you that to complete this trial, all Link has to do to complete The Test of Wood is go through the Lost Woods with a Korok weapon set, which consists of a sword, a shield, and a bow, equipped, and reach the shrine at the end of the trial. Link should have room in his inventory in order to receive and equip the Korok weapon set. If any of the weapons are unequipped or destroyed, Link will lose the trial. Because of this, the player should be wary of using any of the weapons and not use them as much as possible.

In order to complete The Test of Wood Shrine Quest, this is what Link must do:

  1. From Damia, head straight to the Lost Woods and you will eventually encounter some Keese. You can either dodge their attacks and just run straight, kill them by using the Remote Bomb Rune ability, or use your weapons as long as they are not yet about to break.
  2. As you go on the path, you will eventually encounter some Chuchus. Once the first Chuchu appears, head to the path on the right. You can also kill them by using the Remote Bomb Rune ability or use your weapons as long as they are not yet about to break.
  3. Next, as you go on this path, you will eventually see a bunch of crates blocking the path. Instead of attacking the crates and possibly destroying your sword, you can use one of the Remote Bomb Rune abilities to destroy them.
  4. After that, continue on the newly opened path and some Bokoblins will emerge from the ground. You can evade their attacks, kill them by using the Remote Bomb Rune ability, or use your weapons as long as they are not yet about to break. Then, run straight on the path.
  5. Still following this path, you will encounter some Fire Keese along with some Bokoblins firing elemental arrows from the top of high boulders. You can kill them by using the Remote Bomb Rune ability, use your weapons as long as they are not yet about break, or simply evade and run away from them. Continue on the path.
  6. Next, you will eventually encounter a huge Electric Chuchu and behind it is a swampy area with a couple of Octorocks, a Bokoblin, and some FIre Chuchus. You can cross this area the easy way or slightly less easy way. The easy way is, if you have Revali’s Gale, you can simply glide straight from where the Electric Chuchu emerges, evading all the enemies in the swampy area, until you see and reach the shrine. On the other hand, the slightly less easy way is you can traverse through the swampy area using the Cryonis Rune ability to create ice blocks to cross the water and face the enemies until you reach the shrine. Be careful not to drown in the water/mud though as this will result in Link starting from the beginning of the trial. It is worth noting that there is a chest just ahead of where you start crossing the water on the right side which has Forest Dweller’s Sword and another chest inside a tree’s “mouth” midway of the area with a Silver Rupee (100 Rupees).
  7. Upon reaching the Shrine, Damia will congratulate you and you can now enter the Maag Halan Shrine!

Now that you have completed The Test of Wood Shrine Quest, you can now enter the Maag Halan Shrine. This shrine will no longer have a challenge or puzzle inside as the puzzle was already on trying to actually access the shrine. Upon entering the shrine, this is what Link must do:

  1. Upon entering the Maag Halan Shrine, head up the stairs and there will be a chest. Open the chest to obtain a Giant Ancient Core.
  2. Then, just after the chest, continue ahead and talk to the monk and claim your Spirit Orb!

As mentioned above, the Maag Halan Shrine or Maag Halan’s blessing is one of eight shrines in the Woodland Tower region. The other shrines are the Monya Toma Shrine or Drawing Parabolas, the Keo Ruug Shrine or the Fateful Stars, the Mirro Shaz Shrine or the Tempered Power, the Ketoh Wawai Shrine or Ketoh Wawai’s Blessing, the Rona Kachta Shrine or Rona Kachta’s Blessing, the Daag Chokah Shrine or Daag Chokah’s Blessing, and the Kuhn Sidajj Shrine or Kuhn Sidajj’s Blessing
